Got a cat avatar for the admissions bump. Still complete as of early December no JS1! Things look bleak.

yeah, take some time to research your favorite parts of HLS. I had like 3-5 minutes to ask questions about it, and besides, it's really fun.rseaney wrote:eh i think it could be useful to mull over your responses to some of the more likely questions. why H, why law, where in ten years, etcmwonka wrote:Thank you. Right. It's very unlikely they'll specifically ask why Harvard, but you should spend some time on the website looking at programs you're interested in and have those ready to ask about when they stop for your questions at the end. On that note, absolutely make sure you have at least 2 questions for your interviewer, because unless they're really running low on time, they will ask if you have any questions, and you don't want to be caught flat-footed.everything_bagel wrote: yeah, take some time to research your favorite parts of HLS. Didn't get a "why law" (thought it was in my PS) but I did get the "what type of law are you interested in"aad993 wrote:I'm wondering how important it is to be able to specify which type of law you want to practice and why? And to relate things on your resume to Why Law? Thanks

I just got a JS1 an hour ago, but I am having difficulty scheduling an interview. I can't click on any dates to see open interview times. Is anyone running into this problem?

During my interview I was asked this, and I kinda fumbled around a little. Ended up getting the JS2 anyway, but I would prepare to talk about it!aad993 wrote:I'm wondering how important it is to be able to specify which type of law you want to practice and why? this happened to me when I got my JS1 in December and it was just because there weren't slots open; after a day or two they appeared.royale2540 wrote:I just got a JS1 an hour ago, but I am having difficulty scheduling an interview. Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Congrats to all the new JS1's! I know you're all thrilled. This thread has helped me a lot so I can try to repay you, even if just a little bit. Now, admittedly I'm not an expert on Harvard's interview process, but I'll try to give my 2 cents on the questions I've seen about interviews on the last couple of pages. If anyone else has a question, either PM me or post it here so it can benefit others.
I agree that Harvard tends to cater their questions more to the applicant than other schools, but it could never hurt to see some questions they tend to ask so you can plan for yourself. They might ask you about a lower GPA or LSAT, your undergraduate school, choice of major, or anything else that strikes their interest. You know your resume better than I do (though if you wanted to PM me yours and let me try to guess what they'd ask, I'd be happy to). Other than getting to know your resume, I definitely would advise reviewing your answers to a couple questions.
1.) Why law/ law school? (I was asked this too, and got the feeling they were interested in students who would be ambitious)
2.) Why Harvard?
3.) Proudest Moments
4.) Biggest challenges/things you're most proud of
5.) Any weaknesses in your application
6.) Questions to ask
Other than that, all I can say is be confident. No one's trying to trip you up or anything. They are really nice, and just want to get to know you better. Don't be a crazy person and memorize all possible answers so you sound like a robot. Just go in and have a conversation with them. No matter what you think, you didn't bomb the interview. They know you're nervous, and will be patient with you. It takes a lot to "bomb" an interview. In fact, if you want a story about someone bombing an interview, here you go. My best friend is an engineer. He was interviewing with a very well-known engineering firm at a restaurant and he was drinking coffee. The interview was going great apparently. However, he coughed while drinking and absolutely drenched his interviewer. He told me the guy looked like he had just gotten out of the shower. Shockingly, he didn't get the offer. So just remember, no matter if you stumble over your words or even are caught not wearing pants, you will not screw up so badly you spray JS or DE or whoever with hot coffee.
Oh, most importantly, smile!!! People are so much more attractive and seem more personable when they smile. I'm sure all of you are going to do wonderfully. Have fun and good luck!

Does anyone roughly have an idea of the JS2/JS1 ratio to expect this cycle?

Not sure if there's a more recent source.the crimson, 2012 wrote: will expand the number of applicants who are offered interviews from about 1,000 to 1,200. Those interviews will also be longer, from under 10 minutes to around 15 minutes.
As for JS2s, my phone's being slow so the 509 wont load but you can find it here:
http://hls.harvard.edu/about/aba-standa ... sclosures/
I remember it being in the mid 900s, so say approximately 900/1200ish.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I think HLS has made a-paw-ximately 45% of offers this year (meaning about 500 more to go). It's an estimate based on the theory that this years and last years thread shouldn't be too different in terms of sample, and that last years thread reported 162 JS2s and our thread re-purr-ted 73. (73/162=0.45).LetsGoMets wrote:Last cycle 5943 apps, 918 offers, 563 matrics.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I was (pleasantly) surprised how comfortable my interviewer (not JS) was with my resume and personal statement. He asked specific questions about the narrative and we discussed the educational theory behind my experience. It was more than enjoyable, but it kept me on my toes. Definitely be comfortable with your application as a whole. I was also asked how I think Harvard should evaluate an application beyond the numbers.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
