Hi,

So, I am deciding between Michigan and Duke -- and someone mentioned to pick Michigan due to the kinds/prestige of the firms that recruit at Michigan. Something to the effect of the top firms recruiting at Michigan. The school mentions this on the website also, but I wanted to get a perspective from someone who actually attends and has gone through OCI. At Duke ASW, they handed out a long list of firms that folks had gone to and Michigan has something similar posted on their website. I'm really torn between the two schools. Thoughts please.

I am also interested in this...however I would be absolutely FLOORED if any firm that recruits at Michigan doesn't also recruit at Duke. Like beyond shocked based on the Big Law numbers. Maybe the GPA cutoffs are slightly different, but other than that I imagine it's a virtually identical group of firms at OCI
I was torn until I visited Duke. If you go to either and do well you can get a quality offer. But Durham is the last place I'd want to spend my 20s. Sent my Michigan deposit from the Duke hotel. Obviously just my reaction.

I don't really know more about this than anyone else on here who hasn't been through it. I'm sure some firms that interview at Michigan or Duke don't interview at the other. I believe Michigan actually has a higher number of firms conducting interviews. But in terms of the elite firms, it seems like both schools have good placements at some of them. It's been about seven business days since I sent in an email regarding scholarship re-evaluation with no response or confirmation - with the deposit deadline a week from today, it'd probably be appropriate to call them up and just confirm the email was received at this point, right?

They responded to me the next day, so I would definitely give them a call

Yeah, they responded to my request for a competing merit scholarship w/ an offer the next day. I think the finaid folks at Michigan try to move things off of their desks as quickly as is practicable. If I were you I would call.

ha yeah I did. Turns out they replied a week ago today. But i have all my email forwarded to a single address, and it was picked up by spam before forwarding, so even though I was checking spam multiple times a day I didn't see it. Embarrassing!

Withdrew. Not fun.

Hope the $$ and spot goes to a TLSer who appreciates this school. It gets way more derision than it deserves here sometimes. Michigan law is world class institution and I wish you all the best.

Got a feeler call Tuesday morning, and then they called me back later in the day offering me a spot off the waitlist. Sent in a LOCI and took a visit. Got a little $$$ too.

Hang in there guys!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
