I think those who are choosing between Stanford and most other T14s outside of Yale should consider this. Stanford seems to be one of the only law schools that looks beyond numbers to see that they are admitting interesting applicants with diverse experiences, not just checking boxes related to racial diversity.Knock wrote:I'm not implying that it gets anyone a boost in admissions. Racial diversity isn't the only type of diversity though, of course.

How could a school be very diverse if they don't give a boost to diverse applicants. By stats, disadvantaged applicants are less plentiful and less likely to be able to reach HYS. Hence the "disadvantaged".Knock wrote: I'm not implying that it gets anyone a boost in admissions. I was talking in terms of choosing a school, if diversity is important to you. Well, with so many applications for so few seats like Stanford has, and their emphasis on a well-rounded applicant, I'd think S would have a pretty diverse class overall. You don't have to be disadvantaged necessarily to bring diversity (maybe Peace Corps volunteers, etc.).r6_philly wrote:How could a school be very diverse if they don't give a boost to diverse applicants. That is not my argument. The scope of my question to knock is entirely limited to diversity of the disadvantaged kind.bdubs wrote:Diverse <> disadvantagedr6_philly wrote:How could a school be very diverse if they don't give a boost to diverse applicants. I am not too concerned about other brands of diversity since I have been away from academic institutions for a decade or two.

I don't think academic diversity is even something that needs to be mulled over since there is no pre-defined "pre-law" major requirement. We will have a diverse class of academic disciplines no matter what.
I was talking about racial diversity. Since race is a suspect class, social-economical diversity is used now. So I was just commenting on the original train of thought.

This thread makes me feel that 3 years of law school at Stanford would be the best vacation I have ever had, or will have.ebeth wrote:

campus-wide events, yes. I was lucky enough to see Sandra Day O'Conner speak there when I was a freshman.
Not sure about events specifically for law students. The services held there are open to the community at large, and are really well done. During the summer, it is the local hot-spot for weddings.

Man I used to lurk over threads for Stanford when I was a freshman...which is why I am registered so early but only began posting recently. As an East Coast native...who left to go to a great school in the Midwest...family started harassing me about going even farther. H/S/CLS/NYU....I joined this board just to stalk these programs. A month of harassment over winter break made me give in.Knock wrote:I loved SLS before it was the hot school for getting rich.Non-Chalant1 wrote:Why didn't I apply? Ugh, I find those two fridges for four people to be ridiculous. I've probably been living in Europe too long, but if I'm living in Munger next year, I'm probably going to test the waters with my roomies to see if they'll try living with one fridge and unplug the second. Sure, if there's a party and you need beer storage, plug the second fridge in; but really 2 running 24/7 might give me panic attacks. The Stig wrote:
