Not that I am religiously defending my calculation which basically consists of thin air, but what makes you think less applicants does not mean less people on LSN and therefore less people with accepted statuses on LSN?

I think less applicants does not mean less admits. So the number of admits who report on LSN should not be affected by drop of application (it will be affected by drop of HLS class size, though).

I've tried to stop myself from saying this, but... fewer.

Forgive me for saying this but... why does everyone seem to be saying this is a brutal cycle for HLS? Based off LSN the magic 172+ 3.9+ for autoadmit / WL seems to still be true.. There were also quite a few outright dings last cycle with 3.8-3.9 and 173 as well..

I think people were just shocked by HP's rejection thats all. The other rejections have not been too shocking (If i may say). Since Harvard was silent for 3 weeks, it left the thread a little confused.

Disclaimer: I think HP is a wonderful person and I wish her the best of luck in this cycle and hopes she gets a million dollar scholarship to go to Yale/Stanford.

I think its mildly disconcerting that it was an outright ding but the only person that ultimately got in HLS from LSN in the past 3 cycles with a 3.87 and 173 that I could find had 3-4 years WE + any possible PS/LOR differences from HP.

The takeaway I got from this cycle (I'm 2 cycles away from applying lol.) is that KB is outright dinging applicants on the lower end who do not have exciting (in her personal opinion) LORs / PS / WE that would otherwise put them into the 'we dont care if you lower our median because we expect you to do great things' category.

Edit: Takeaway #2, WE only seems to be affecting borderline applicants, and there may be a heavier weight associated with GPA this cycle based on current (limited) data.

I'm not sure u can say this because you have not read anyone's PS/LOR/WE and you do not know what KB thinks is exciting.

If you look at the non-URM candidates, apart from numbers there is really no clear indicator of why they got rejected.

When you turn your attention to URM candidates, i feel like she held 90% (of not more) of the URM pool. There are some rejection (especially the shocking 3.8/160) but apart from that there is no pattern.

I really think they came to some conclusion and they spent those 3 weeks doing something new that may play out for the rest of the cycle. At this point in time i'm not even sure if we will see KB1s this week. Prob a little later after the submission deadline, maybe the week of valentine's day.

I would take the held stats with a grain of salt... a lot is probably trolls even more so than LSN due to the minimal effort required to submit fake stats in comparison to creating an LSN profile.

It also seems like reverse URM splitters have fared better (relative to small sample size) than traditional URM splitters.
