Accepted! Status checker says 2/12 but I just looked at it today. $150,000 scholarship over three years, thank you Northwestern.

Where did you see scholarship info? I thought we had to apply separately to get scholarships, after acceptance.

I went in to view my decision letter via status checker and it said so on my letter. Is this not the case for everybody?racrfish wrote:Where did you see scholarship info? I thought we had to apply separately to get scholarships, after acceptance.
EDIT: It says that I have to enter in the next year's class though, not sure what that means because I applied for this year lol

It means they probably want you to get a year of work experience before enrolling. They are enticing you to do so with a fat scholly.battlerifle13 wrote:I went in to view my decision letter via status checker and it said so on my letter. Oh, okay that makes sense - I read the whole letter and that's exactly what it says. I have never heard of such thing until now.mrizza wrote:This. I would do unspeakable things for that 150k deferral offer. I wouldn't mind working for a year knowing that something like that was waiting at the other end.

Did 4 years in the air force for about $150k worth of scholly, 1 year is a pretty sweet dealWaitingandHopeful wrote:I would do unspeakable things for that 150k deferral offer. I wouldn't mind working for a year knowing that something like that was waiting at the other end.

I have to admit I'm relieved that ended up being a deferral enticement. I would have been so disappointed if they were giving out scholarships and I didn't get one.

Interested to see what happens when you tell them this. If they like you enough to make that offer, I would find it hard to believe that they would limit their offers to you to a) $150k to defer, or b) not admitted. Wouldn't they rather just revise your scholarship down if you are set on attending this coming year? Other people have been admitted with no work experience (I think).battlerifle13 wrote:I know I am not going to take a year off so I am going to withdraw, hope they throw this money at one of you guys ;D

For everyone that just got in we only have until 1March to submit need access/fafsa/additional scholarship essays. But on the plus side they don't look at giving out merit aid until late march so we haven't missed the pot.fallingup wrote:I have to admit I'm relieved that ended up being a deferral enticement. This was my first thought as well. That would be devastating.mrizza wrote:i saved the pdf out of paranoiaracrfish wrote:Is anyone else paranoid that it's going to change to a ding like that other guy had? No? Just me? Okay. I'll keep frantically checking to make sure it doesn't change.

Yea I am not sure how it works and it does not clarify on the letter. I mean like I would consider Northwestern with a scholarship less than $150K as long as they can make offers comparable to other schools', I am just not interested in taking a year off.letitloose wrote:Interested to see what happens when you tell them this. looks like today was strictly admits, i think we're safe. we're also all splitters, seems like they just realized they weren't going to keep their medians and let us all in hahayou'rethemannowdawg wrote:IN!

I'm hoping they admit splitters in the other direction now

I really know nothing about how it would work either,* but if you're interested in NU I would explain your position to them rather than straight up withdraw and forget about it. You never know, maybe they'll even just let you keep the $150k starting next year (or most of it)!battlerifle13 wrote:Yea I am not sure how it works and it does not clarify on the letter. They won't let you keep the $150k without deferring. They're offering it to try and keep their percentage of students with work experience up, while also maintaining medians.letitloose wrote:I really know nothing about how it would work either,* but if you're interested in NU I would explain your position to them rather than straight up withdraw and forget about it. This is something NU has done for quite a few years (the last dean started the WE thing.) I've never heard of anyone turning it into even a regular acceptance this year--people who get the $150k+deferral at NU either take it or go elsewhere.
Think about it this way: $150k now is worth a hell of a lot more than starting at $160k in 2016 instead of 2017.
