Withdrew. Their lack of communication/transparency regarding matching scholarships was a bit annoying to say the least. Would have loved to attend though

Kinda how I'm feeling at this point. I'm going to give them two more days though since my deposit at the other school doesn't have to be postmarked until April 30th.

What's the rule about withdrawing after accepting a spot and a matching scholarship? Are you allowed to do that?

No, no. Nothing official. I'm just considering all my options.

edit: officially going to Columbia? Congrats!

edit 2: I feel like Twinkle. Her heart is telling her Berkeley but the $$$ is taking her elsewhere. My heart is saying retake but $$$ is saying Berkeley.

I called them today about the money situation. They said if you haven't heard anything by now, you didn't get money. However, you may get money after they see how many people with money withdraw, etc. So basically you have to commit to them before you would even find out since they won't know who withdraws until the deadline anyway. I was frustrated with that and couldn't pass up other scholarship offers for a measly "maybe" so I withdrew.

This entire process was so convoluted and drawn-out. Very much a turn-off.

Welp for those keeping score at home, twinkle will NOT be attending Berkeley. All works out how it should anyway.
I'm sorry because you seemed SO excited for Berkeley. But I'm happy if you've find a better option with more $$$$!
Just to clarify something - people who have been offered matching scholarships have a deadline of today, whereas everyone else has until like June 3 to commit to solely Berkeley. So you would potentially hear pretty soon about money that may get freed up after today.

I just withdrew as well. I don't think it was a coincidence.

When do you have to change that "tentative" response to a commit? LSAC doesn't care if you haven't deposited, right?

So that email means the last matching schollies will go out tomorrow, any offers after that will be Dean's.

Well, fuck.

ETA: Dean's Fellowships and other named schollies, I mean. I bet they have their second-choices for matching all ready once today's deadline passes, or did they already send those out?

As an FYI
We'd like to share some important updates about our scholarship programs and review processes:

-The Matching Scholarship review process has concluded. We will not make any new Matching Scholarship offers after Wednesday, May 1st.

- The Dean's Fellowship and other named scholarships will continue to be offered on a rolling basis. The review/award process for these scholarships will conclude on or before May 15th. To remain in consideration for these awards your enrollment status at Berkeley Law must either be "tentative confirm" or "definite confirm."

We have appreciated your patience throughout this process. Our approach, while time-consuming, is to review all scholarship applications thoroughly and holistically. If you were not selected for a scholarship please rest assured that we hope you will still choose to pursue your legal education here at the University of California, Berkeley. While we know there can be a difference in the cost of attendance between us and other law schools you may be considering, we also believe there are significant other factors that distinguish Berkeley Law and make it the right place for many students.

Scholarships are a relatively small part of a larger financial aid program aimed at ensuring access to Berkeley Law and protecting the ability of our graduates to pursue the legal career of their choice. At Berkeley Law we choose to invest a great deal in need-based grants, summer public interest fellowships, and our Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) - so while we realize that earning your J.D. at Berkeley Law can be expensive, it also affords you a broad array of opportunities including substantial help in managing your post-graduation debt. We encourage you to explore the other financial aid programs Berkeley Law has to offer.

We look forward to your joining us in August.

I guess that's GG unless they decide to send some more letters out in the next few hours, which I'm gonna assume is extremely unlikely.

Hi guys! I know this thread has been a bit dead but I was wondering if anyone had heard about the need-based grants? (http://www.law.berkeley.edu/192.htm). I've read that we're supposed to get those offers on BearFacts in April but I don't have anything showing up.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
