I was under the impression that class sizes were staying the same as last year despite the drop in applicantssmokeylarue wrote:I was bored so I made a very possibly bullshit quick analysis. Review of LSN showed 216 acceptances last cycle. Lets just assume 10% less applicants this year (totally made up for analysis purposes). We should then expect roughly 194 acceptances this year on LSN. So far there are 122 acceptances. 122/194 = 63% of the class has been filled. If there is 15% drop in applicants, we expect 184 acceptances. 122/184 = 66% of the class has been filled.
POSSIBLY VERY WRONG CONCLUSION: 1/3 of all acceptances still to come

Also, I would wager that the people on LSN apply earlier (and hence receive decisions earlier) than the average applicant.
So I'd guess that less than 2/3 of the class has been filled

quick question regarding my loci: think i should make a quick little mention that my fiancee is currently a 1L at CLS? wouldn't hurt, yes?

Could in fact help quite a bit. Much more so if we were talking about a school in a city that didn't have 387 other law schools, but still. Adcom members are, in fact, people.

I think it's perfectly fine to mention that - more the fact that she is at Columbia/NYC, so you would ideally be in the same location as her.bk641 wrote:quick question regarding my loci: think i should make a quick little mention that my fiancee is currently a 1L at CLS? wouldn't hurt, yes?

Wouldn't the holiday weekend have slowed down the mail? Might still get some 2/16 VCE's...

By two days. But that would mean we are in fifth day of waiting since that postmark date.Mr. Somebody wrote:Wouldn't the holiday weekend have slowed down the mail? Might still get some 2/16 VCE's...

I think the prolonged silence means they are done with the 173+ers they admitted at first glance, and are now moving onto the sub-173ers they needed some more time with.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I'm really confused by how Columbia makes its decisions...because there seems to be no order (eg auto-admits first). Sometimes I feel they just break the pile into batches randomly and start to read them. For example many people who have gotten into H and S have not heard back while some people who were held by harvard and rejected by stanford have gotten in. Is that their form of YP?
Looking at the URMs many haven't heard back but in the midst of all the red and yellow there is green (urm 3.8 and 162). he must either have had a killer app (but he hasn't heard from HS..yet) or the adcomms are just looking at apps in a weird way.

I'm still waiting with a 175 and a 3.9+ GPA. I'm honestly not sure what to think at this point.WhiteGuy5 wrote:I think the prolonged silence means they are done with the 173+ers they admitted at first glance, and are now moving onto the sub-173ers they needed some more time with.

I haven't been following their admissions patterns, but they have to extensively accept people from their hold pile if they're holding you.

Mind sharing your submit date? It seems like the hold has reached early Nov. submitters. If you submit way earlier and not held yet it might suggest sth. good?

Sorry to do this, but timestamps? I still have nothing.
I know I have a low LSAT for an LSAT-heavy school, but I got a really compelling Columbia specific LOR written. Hoping that + my GPA can make this happen. No news is still good news for me at this point.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I've had a weird cycle. Overperformed by getting a KB1, yet got waitlisted at Penn/Mich/now Columbia. Also a straight reject from Stanford. If P and M were YP, then this would definitely be the strangest decision. Either way, I think the Seahawk hold is the most disturbing/most telling as to what they're gonna do with this groupDoorkeeper wrote:Seriously? A 173/3.77 URM? Edit: 4:32pm EST
Edit2: Said that under the impression that Seahawk had already gotten into H. Not sure if my memory failed me there

Still nothing.
I dont know what to make of this especially since URMs with better numbers have been held/wait-listed. Rejection on the way, maybe
