The typical pattern has been decisions sent by e-mail in the first couple weeks of December and rejections/WL's coming by snail mail, usually arriving by the third week of December.

with the undergrad semester winding down, i have such little motivation to study/write final papers. the columbia decision comes at a "great" time. if i get in...won't be motivated to study for finals, if i don't get in...will be too bummed to study for finals

I've been complete for a while now, there's nothing on mine that indicates ED.

I recall on mine, that before I went complete, it said if you checked the ED box, they would not mark your app as complete until they had received that contract.

Yeah, you RD people will probably start hearing back in something like a month and a half.
