Have any admits filled out the financial aid application yet? Or know of when they typically process those apps and let us know about need-based aid?

Filled it out last night. Not sure when they typically let you know about your award, but based on random stuff I've read from previous threads on TLS, seems to be around March-ish.xnsch wrote:Have any admits filled out the financial aid application yet? Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I was able to put it out of my mind for a few weeks but I must admit I'm surprised given how few peeps they took in Dec. that they haven't done at least one more round.
Now being in the sort of hot zone of admissions, late Jan, every day that passes without news (not just form Y) is a little bit painful. Painful's not really the right word. But, whatever.
And THEN I remember that even whenever Y makes the next round of calls, I am not likely to get one!!!!!!!!!! Soooooooo....................shit.
Seems like they really should be calling in the next few days, but who knows.......
Someone say something positive?

Maybe schools have been waiting for more cycle data in hopes of seeing more stabilization in the high bands? Hopefully after yesterday's release, they'll start rolling with admits more quickly. It does seem quite slow this year...

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Hey y'all. I'm wondering if there is anyone who has been admitted yet or from previous cycles that can speak to Yale being more holistic than other schools. My LSAT is a smidge under their 25, and my GPA is their median. While I do have some decent softs (published in academic journals, international WE/service abroad, & great recommendation from a Yale Law grad/CEO), I'm not sure if applying is worth the $80, as I am on a tight budget...
TL;DR: Has anyone been admitted with lesser numbers? Or knows what kind of insane package lets them overlook a lower LSAT? I am financially constrained, and not sure if I should bother - but did notice they admitted a 153 last year...

YLS's admissions process is such that predictions are difficult to make with any degree of honesty. For what it's worth I was admitted with a GPA under their 25th and an LSAT a smidge over their 50th. My hunch is that between 3.7-3.9, and 169-175, other factors are dispositive -- namely your LoR and writing samples. I have a hunch about what led to my being admitted, but it's all rationalization from outside the black box. My opinion is that you certainly have numbers that keep you in play, so spend the time necessary to really perfect your opportunities to write and sell yourself on the application, and just send in an app.bunney_j wrote: I'm not sure if applying is worth the $80, as I am on a tight budget...

Re: Yale c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Agree--In my case, I was admitted with similar numbers (LSAT around the 25th percentile and GPA around median), and arguably without any sort of "insane package." In speaking with professors at the ASW, it seems that there is definitely a wide range of weighing mechanisms they use when reading applications; it's ultimately the luck of the draw in terms of who reads your folder and how. That said, since your numbers would get you to this stage of consideration, I think it would be worth it to try your shot.SamuelDanforth wrote:YLS's admissions process is such that predictions are difficult to make with any degree of honesty. Thanks appreciate it - I was debating between Duke/Yale, but think I'll try Yale even if it's a long shot! Are you a URM? I am, but not sure if that matters to Yale since they don't ask.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
