Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
The amount you get is dependent on where you are traveling from. I was accepted last year and drove down from DC to visit. About 2 weeks after I visited, I got a check in the mail for around $100. I wasn't expecting any money and the 2 hour drive from DC did not cost me close to $100, so it was a nice surprise.PDX4343 wrote:For visiting stipends, I was told to just reach out to whoever contacted you for your interview. I was offered $400 to come at a time of my choosing and another $400 to come for the ASW weekend. I was told you have to pay for your trip up front and then they cut you a check either when you're visiting or like a week afterwards. I am on the west coast, though, and I'm not sure if they offer different amounts for students who would be traveling a shorter distance.
ETA: They just told me this over the phone after my interview was over.

Applying sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. Hoping that I get accepted before late November, because I would like to tour and sit in on a class before Thanksgiving.

Don't think it matters. Although judging from the people I've spoken with, it seems like Dean Faulkner is the only interviewer who admits students at the end of the phone call. Interview questions for me (with Dean Faulkner) included:Beads2017 wrote:I just got an interview request from Grace Cleveland, not Dean Faulkner. Is this a bad sign? I interviewed like 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Does anything think going to undergrad in VA show enough interest in UVA?
I want to apply so badly, but I'm making myself be patient enough to write a Why UVA

Found some podcasts by admissions officers on UVA's website, thought I'd share it here for anyone interested.

At the risk of outing myself.... I went to a VA undergrad and wrote a why uva. Several points from my why UVA were brought up in my interview, so I'd imagine it'd worth writing one, particularly if you arent from VA and went to a non-uva UG. PM me if you want more details.Keilz wrote:Does anything think going to undergrad in VA show enough interest in UVA?I want to apply so badly, but I'm making myself be patient enough to write a Why UVA

First time I applied, 2 years ago, I was interviewed by her and got an acceptance by the end of the day. I think the only difference is she can't offer admission a the end of the interview. However, she is super sweet so I feel like it leads to a lower key interview, or at least it did for me.Beads2017 wrote:I just got an interview request from Grace Cleveland, not Dean Faulkner. I had an interview with Grace today, she is super nice and it was indeed a low key interview. Pretty standard questions. Look through the thread, some people posted some already. It was pretty conversational though, not a ton of prep necessary imo. Just be ready to talk about things in your app.Nothing but the Funk wrote:First time I applied, 2 years ago, I was interviewed by her and got an acceptance by the end of the day. Thanks! Hope I get in. I checked out your numbers--you're also above both 75ths so I really wouldn't stress. They probably just don't do the interviews in exactly the order the applications arrive.taxman14 wrote:KatCoco wrote:Submitted Sept 22taxman14 wrote:KatCoco wrote:I had an interview with Grace today, she is super nice and it was indeed a low key interview. Checking in. I had an interview with Grace, but UVA is a pretty big reach for me. How big of a deal is it that I was interviewed? Does an interview mean I have a good chance of getting in or do they interview many people they deny/waitlist?
