OSU would have to get back to everyone at some point right? At least before the second deadline?

I would think so too. I can't understand how OSU doesn't have the ability to get decisions out in a timely manner when every other school I applied to has. Compared to the other schools I applied to, OSU normally receives far less applications on average. It is really irritating but then again, I guess I should have scored higher on my LSAT and had a better GPA haha.MischiefManaged16 wrote:It's crazy. I still haven't heard conclusively back from a few schools where my numbers are below median or even below the 25th percentile. You're just not a priority for those schools. I've also thought about this application process like applying for a job--they really don't have to get back to you. I've lost count of the number of jobs I've applied to and heard nothing back. Not a "Thanks but no thanks" email, not a mailbot "Your application has been deleted" email, just nothing. It's easy to be a bit bitter, but strictly speaking they really don't owe us anything.Thewanderer wrote:I would think so too. Except for the fact that you paid (unless you had a waiver) to submit your application, and they tell you they will get back to you in X amount of time. In some sense, they do owe us the simple courtesy of responding within the time-frame they proposed.

I think they definitely owe us a response. The initial e-mail they sent saying they received our applications stated we should expect a decision within 6-10 weeks, I believe. It's not like a job application where they don't have to get back to you. I agree that paying an application fee should require a response on their part. The purpose of the admissions office is to make decisions and let applicants know what those decisions are, whether they are acceptances, wait list offers or rejections.Phaedria wrote:midwestfest wrote:I still haven't heard conclusively back from a few schools where my numbers are below median or even below the 25th percentile. Exactly, you don't pay a company to consider you for a position. And with that, 17 weeks of waiting as opposed to the advertised 6-8 weeks is a pretty huge discrepancy. I would argue that they do owe us something. Consider William and Mary, they made sure everyone who applied in time received a decision by April 1st. I think it just comes down to being respectful of people's time and $$$.Phaedria wrote:midwestfest wrote:I still haven't heard conclusively back from a few schools where my numbers are below median or even below the 25th percentile. Like I posted earlier in this thread, at this point if you haven't heard, you're more than likely looking at a waitlist offer or an outright rejection. Their first deadline has passed, and they're still probably waiting to hear conclusively from more competitive applicants before making moves with less competitive applicants. Thousands of people ride waitlists (or don't even hear one way or the other) well into the summer every year. It's the nature of the game.MischiefManaged16 wrote:I think they definitely owe us a response. I understand that waitlists go into the summer, but I thought they would at least let us know by May or so whether it was going to be waitlist or rejection. I wasn't aware that people wait until the summer to hear one way or the other as far as that.midwestfest wrote:Like I posted earlier in this thread, at this point if you haven't heard, you're more than likely looking at a waitlist offer or an outright rejection. How long will it take for a decision to be made?
Ideally, from the time your application goes under review, we hope that you will receive a decision in six to eight weeks. However, be aware that this may fluctuate throughout the year. January through March is the busiest time of year in our Admissions Office and sometimes may take longer for an application to be thoroughly reviewed.
There might be slightly different information available elsewhere, but they don't guarantee a response by any given date in that answer above. I'd be surprised if they guaranteed a response deadline in other communication. "We should be able to get back to you by...", "Dates subject to change...", etc.

Re: Ohio State c/o 2019 Applicants
It seems like you are on a quest to defend OSU for taking a very long time to review certain applications. It is easy to have that point of view as someone who received a full tuition scholarship. However, I imagine the majority of people posting about their frustration have exhausted informational sources such as the FAQ section of the OSU Law website. 6-8 weeks may just be an estimate and I'm sure January through March is the busiest time during the application cycle (similar to every school in the country). I think it goes without saying that 17 weeks is extreme, even in your opinion.midwestfest wrote:Direct from their online admissions FAQ:MischiefManaged16 wrote: I understand that waitlists go into the summer, but I thought they would at least let us know by May or so whether it was going to be waitlist or rejection. In a previous post I mentioned that no matter your target and reach schools, you are simply a less competitive candidate for those reach schools. For some their reach is OSU, for others it might be Georgetown or even Harvard. Yes, I did receive a timely answer and generous offer from OSU, but several other schools took 3-4 months to respond, and a few more have not sent word whatsoever. Also, regardless of your stats, the later you apply in the cycle, the more likely your response is to take a long time. Thanks for the ad hominem, though!Thewanderer wrote: It seems like you are on a quest to defend OSU for taking a very long time to review certain applications. Would you say it is fallacious? I'd beg to differ based on the content of your posts and general tone. Good luck at OSU, I'm sure you've already begun making your mark.midwestfest wrote:In a previous post I mentioned that no matter your target and reach schools, you are simply a less competitive candidate for those reach schools. It's my second choice. I'm still waiting to hear back from UNC. But after OSU offered me 15k a year, I'm definitely going to deposit at OSU.

Re: Ohio State c/o 2019 Applicants
I got an email this week reminding me about the deposit deadeadline, which is totally fine, but they had the audacity to say "as an Early Admission applicant, your deposit deadline is 05/20/2016..." When I was never an early admission applicant and only got my decision a couple of weeks ago. I have no problem with the deadline itself, but don't try to characterize ANYTHING about my OSU admissions process as "early". What a joke...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
