The key is to not give up. You say this now, and you probably believe or mean it, but the opportunity's still there. You're still in contention. I was in the same exact boat, and I told myself consistently that I couldn't wait till July (various personal and professional reasons, not least of which was cost considerations). Then I got the call randomly July (w/ $$), was at ACL in October, the trail of lights in December, and I'm heading back for classes in January. Just take it slow, and keep up with what you're doing.
Best of luck to all of y'all!
My issue is that the Navy needs to know in the next month or so where I'm going if I get out. I can't just move to TX this summer not knowing if they'll take me or not. Everything in the military takes way longer than it should, and separating from the Navy takes months. I'm just
hoping there is some way they can reevaluate my situation given my service to the nation and situation.
Really, really hate it when vets act entitled to something for their service. Please don't do this.
Entitled? No. I by no means expect to get acceptance based solely on my service (although I think it should be noted when considering any application. Military service is no cake walk), but I would hope I could get a more definite answer earlier than they might usually issue one because it is a unique situation.
By the way, when and where did you serve Nagster?

To the folks who were WL: do not give up. I was waitlisted several cycles ago and managed to get off of the WL after sending a series of substantive, targeted, and specific LOCIs. PM me for details if you like.

That's tough, especially because most decisions may come out in March or so and they may be better schools that you would rather go to (say a scholly at Cornell or something). I had a job-related issue as well (not military-related), and I had to talk to my supervisor about it and be very candid about my situation and the uncertainty of it going forward. It wasn't easy, but they understood. I don't have a military background, nor do I know people who went through it, but maybe talking to them is something you can do? I don't know about contacting the admissions office now (or ever, really) and basically pressuring them to decide because of your situation. Don't mean to sound harsh, but it seems kind of unrealistic to hope that would go over really well, you know?
Regardless, best of luck navy. I'm rooting for you.
Thanks man. I'm going to submit a LOCI and hope for the best. I did call and talk to a woman in the admissions office and she told me if the Navy started leaning on me pretty hard to need an answer, they may be able to reevaluate my application although it could push it towards a rejection. We'll see what happens.

Acting like you deserve special treatment for something is the definition of entitled. You want them to relook/reconsider your app in a way different than others because of your service. I asked you nicely because maybe you didn't realize the way it came off, but you sound entitled. And if it was just your situation you wanted them to consider that would be one thing, you specifically said "given my service to my nation" which is what I thought sounded entitled, which is why I bolded it.
And not that it matters, because you should take honest and well-meaning criticism from anyone on any subject and not try to use your service as a trump card, but I am currently active duty army finishing up a 5 year stint.
Well thank you for your service man, even though you chose the wrong branch. :p
Good luck with your applications. I'll be working on my LOCI, and other entitled things.

Can you expand a little on why the Navy needs to know where you'll be after separation? I retired just a few months before starting law school at UT, and I don't remember the Navy needing to know what my post-retirement plans were. As mentioned above, if the issue is your household goods shipment, that can typically be delayed for six or twelve months after separation, with another 12-month "education extension" that's free for the asking.

Maybe I just need more education on how all that works. I just know I'm done in June and I need to know where to send my stuff. If I can delay the shipment, then I'll pursue that. Thanks for the info!

Congrats to the admits! Did those who have heard back from UT see any movement on the status checker? I'm horrible about checking mine anyway but still curious

When people are accepted off of the WL, are they typically not offered any/much scholarship money? The reason I ask is that I have two scholarship offers to T1 schools, so if UT isn't going to offer me at least $15k, I'm going to withdraw. So if they WL me, I might just withdraw and get ready to move (I currently live 20 miles from the UT Law). My numbers aren't outstanding (166/3.92), but I know a UT Law professor who sent in a recommendation for me.

One point below median LSAT and above 75th GPA seems like you'd get in to me--so no WL--but what do I know. I'm biased haha

I got money off the waitlist after they told me I could negotiate. I waited until I was accepted, then sent in my best offer to the school I gave up to attend UT for and they gave me some pretty good money. Sorry for not being specific, but it's possible.

Awesome, thanks! Do you (or anyone) know when they typically send out scholarship offers? Is it all at once at the end of the cycle or pretty soon after you get accepted? There's no reason that I need to know that besides that I hate not having any idea where I'm going to be likely living for the rest of my life.

Nope. It updated several days after I received the call, and all it says is "Offered Admission".

The person that called me brought it up immediately during the call itself. All I had to do was listen and follow-up. I imagine it's probably the same with people who get accepted outright. Safe guess is that scholly offers generally should come out anytime from when you were admitted to maybe 3-4 weeks after?

I'm in-state too, so I would like to think I won't be WL-ed either. Of course, I thought I was going to be accepted ED too but was held over for RD. So it wouldn't totally surprise me.
