Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
Looks like a jump up in midlaw and government jobs, tiny bump in clerkships, but biglaw dipped. Need more firms to come here for OCI. Probably means grads can get jobs as long as they can get interviews. Lots of people going to Business too. A small number of that might be in house.

A) Is it weird that I got an interview invite before my app went complete?
B) Phone or Skype? Thoughts?

Don't know about the first part, but definitely phone. Connectivity issues among other things make it an easy call.ltbenn wrote:A) Is it weird that I got an interview invite before my app went complete?

I had the Skype vs. Phone question as well. Glad to hear others have gone the phone route. I thought doing Skype might show a little more initiative and personality, but it's not practical with my work schedule, especially given that none of my coworkers know I'm applying to LS.LET'S GET IT wrote:Don't know about the first part, but definitely phone. I did skype. I feel like phone can be more awkward when you can't really read the other person and they cant see you. Went well for me.vested wrote:I had the Skype vs. Phone question as well. I went with phone. Skype feels awkward to me, and I only have wireless in my apartment so I didn't want to risk it.vested wrote:I had the Skype vs. Phone question as well. For the "Not too excited about STL crowd":
- I only know life as a 1L, but seriously, you won't have time to capitalize on the benefits of NYC/Chi over STL. The only preferable city would be one with better weather and some beaches for chill weekends. You don't the time or money to hit up broadway shows, attend concerts, go to hip night clubs, etc.
- The food scene in STL may be lacking, but if you're not a major foodie it's not a big deal. There's a chipotle. There's chick fil a. There's 5 guys. The Wash U campus food is great.
- Forest Park is the bomb. It's great for dates, it's great for chilling, it's great for picnics. The zoo is awesome, the museums are great. I haven't been to the City Museum, but I've heard it's the shit. There are plenty of attractions to keep you occupied. Go camping, go hit up the Arch, go take a river cruise, go biking through Forest Park, whatever. Seriously, Forest Park is like Central Park with less fluff, but way, way, way fewer people.
Regarding "Wash U = Harvard" here, I haven't really experienced that. I mean, some people are like "wow, Wash U!", but you don't have models begging to bring you bottles so what does it even matter. Definitely don't consider lay prestige at all when picking Wash U. The lay prestige here, if there is any, is worthless in every way.
I would say your comfort level with the law school building and the campus far outweigh your comfort level with the city, since a majority of your conscious time will be on campus.

What is the weather like in StL? I was there in early Aug, so I know it's hot and humid, but what about the rest of the year? How's winter driving - lots of ice and snow? Do they do a good job keeping the roads clear or would I need to trade my car for a 4wd?

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
I don't think I completely agree with this. Wash U's campus is beautiful but I park in the ramp next to the law school every day and then walk into the building. That's it. I rarely go anywhere on campus other than the village or DUC for lunch once a week. And I definitely don't spend the vast majority of time in the law building or on campus. I had one class today and was on campus for a total of about 2 hours. The longest I'm ever there is from 10:30-4 like twice a week then I head straight home. And it seems like 2L's and 3L's are at the law school even more sparinglyPeanutsNJam wrote:For the "Not too excited about STL crowd":

Bryan Cave wasn't accredited as a law firm until c/o 2014.mornincounselor wrote:Can anyone explain the rather sudden jump in employment scores here?
Are they gaming the system somehow? Is it a temporary thing? Or have they somehow actually made themselves a much better school overnight?
EDIT -- Oh it's the drop in class size isnt it?

It's really cold in the winter (depending on what you're used to) and it snows, but the roads are not an issue. The city does a really good job with them. Spring and fall are really nice here for the most part but don't last that long.Scalvert wrote:I really liked Forest Park and the neighborhoods around campus.PeanutsNJam wrote:For the "Not too excited about STL crowd":

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
Do you spend most of your time at home then? My point was that people don't spend a lot of time capitalizing on what a city has to offer, at least 1L. My law school building hours are more like 9-6 5 days a week, with occasional days running quite a bit later, and I eat lunch on campus basically every day (dinner most nights too).acr wrote:I don't think I completely agree with this. Georgetown and Cornell, Maybe NW but don't have full-time WE. I was just thinking of going ED because full-tuition would be hard to pass up, don't know if I could get that during regular admissions, doubt I'll get much from any T14 either.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
