I received my admissions email at 8:34 AM, and then at 11:15 AM, I received an email for a scholarship increase. It went from $27,000/year to $32,000/year. It was very odd.

Sigh, so many scholarship increases, keep checking my e-mail every day now, unlikely I'll get one. =\. Congrats though!

Dear TLSers~
While I am not going to discuss the individual circumstances under which decisions on other candidates were made, there is a specific plan in place where we are responding to the points in our scholarship matrix that we believe to be the weakest based on the data we've collected from your reconsideration requests and the projected impact of US News rankings on our yield vis-a-vis our competitors.
To be clear nobody went from $20,000 per year to a full ride. Most increases were in the $5,000 to $7,000 range. Don't believe everything you read on here.
We will do whatever we can to make our offer attractive and reasonable for our candidates. At the end of the day even if we consider US news an accurate reflection of our reputation (which is questionable), we're still a top 50 school. We still offer one of the best legal educations in the country and the best legal education experience out there (in my opinion). We still must balance our institutional goals and do what we can to enroll the most highly qualified class possible.
As always, I am happy to answer questions about your individual situation if you want to contact me directly.
Warm regards,
R. Jay Shively, Jr.

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
^^ Thanks for the post, Dean.
My initial offer was in the low 20k. (what was above it was just not material..) Wake is a great school if you all want mid-atlantic. I just have other rides, so I am not able to matriculate.. GL all! I seriously did not pay attention to the drop.
Also thanks for the increases in $! I love it when a school gives out unsolicited increases.
eta: wake wasn't the only school that went from ~$60k to full with me, so it's nothing school-specific. if we want to talk about weird, i went from WL to full at another school

Dean Shively, this is both comforting and clarifying! Thank you for your reply and consistent transparency with the applicants.WakeLawAdmDean wrote:To be clear nobody went from $20,000 per year to a full ride. Withdrawn offer and scholarship. Good luck everybody! If you haven't visited campus yet, the law school's going to be really nice inside once they finish all of the current renovations.

Again, a little early, but anyone looking at housing or anything?
I'm looking to find 2 roommates for a 3bdrm apartment in Crowne Polo.

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
So in my acceptance email (yay by the way!) it said that I needed to send in my first deposit by april 1st. This was my first acceptance and I am still waiting to hear back from a lot of places. I cannot attend the ASD this weekend or next weekend but I want to have time to see the school before I send in my deposit. Does anyone know if the admissions office allows you to ask for a couple weeks extension for the first deposit?

Congrats on the acceptance! I think it's worth a shot. The worst that can happen is they say no.jendux wrote:So in my acceptance email (yay by the way!) it said that I needed to send in my first deposit by april 1st. Re: Wake Forest C/O 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I believe Dean Shively commented earlier that Wake Forest does not typically allow extensions on its due date (which, at least for me, is early in comparison to other schools), as prospective students requesting an extension "aren't serious enough about Wake". They need to know who is serious (commitments) so that they can admit others/redistribute funds/etc as necessary, rather than continue to wait for admits who are only just using WF as a backup for negotiations and such. However, I truly think you have a strong case for consideration since you cannot attend ASD but want to visit before making your deposit. Perhaps try calling to set up a visit, explain the situation with being unable to attend ASD, and explain that you are very interested in Wake but would really like to visit before paying a deposit. I think if you show that you are not just trying to drag the process out for negotiation purposes or as a 'fall back' that they may be understanding & make an exception. If you plan a date/time to visit that is after the deposit date, they may make an exception. I don't think it would hurt to at least ask if you are honest & open with them.jendux wrote:So in my acceptance email (yay by the way!) it said that I needed to send in my first deposit by april 1st. Well apparently I'm awful at the interwebz. Does anyone know how to fix that? If not, would any of you that know you'll be coming to Wake want to start one that's open?
