To anyone who attended UF for undergrad or who is currently attending law school there, where is the best place to live?

There are really a ton of good options. Most of the apartments south of campus near 23rd terrace have the best bus routes, but you should look at which bus routes go near the law school. I wouldn't count on parking, but I went for UG so a law student may say differently.MikeM-law wrote:To anyone who attended UF for undergrad or who is currently attending law school there, where is the best place to live?

Are you looking for a house or apartment or it doesn't matter? There are some pretty clutch houses 2 steps from the law school, but you pretty much have to know someone to get into one of those.

For me cheaper is always better. Also I wouldn't have a vehicle if I went to UF so idk if that changes anything...but I haven't even looked at off campus options yet... Primarily just maguire village and Corry village.IsThisForReal wrote:There are really a ton of good options. I would strongly recommend Towne Parc appartments. They are priced very well and have three bus routes for campus that come every five minutes and take about ten minutes in traffic to get to campus. Staff is very friendly based on my experience and they treat their residents well.

Yeah, it doesn't change much. The bus system is pretty GOAT. I would recommend looking off campus, from what I've heard it can be a lot cheaperMikeM-law wrote:For me cheaper is always better. Has anybody heard anything about Cazabella? I kind of like the included washer/dryer and proximity to campus.

That's still a pretty decent walk to the law school (uphill). And I think those apartments are fairly old, have you looked at them yet?BB6139 wrote:Has anybody heard anything about Cazabella? I kind of like the included washer/dryer and proximity to campus.

I would be driving, but yeah it would still be quite a walk. I haven't seen the units in person, but I did read somewhere that they had a remodel in the past two years. Don't know how extensive it was.IsThisForReal wrote:That's still a pretty decent walk to the law school (uphill). Like I said earlier, I wouldn't count on driving. You are gonna wanna bus it most likely. Or bike. A lot of people bike that route. I think those bus lines are less reliable because they are so much longer, have a lot more road to cover.BB6139 wrote:I would be driving, but yeah it would still be quite a walk. Is it the parking, traffic, or a combination that makes it that inconvenient?IsThisForReal wrote:Like I said earlier, I wouldn't count on driving. You are gonna wanna bus it most likely. Or bike. One of my friends who is a 3L did say that the law parking has gotten worse this year because they eliminated street parking, but I didn't imagine it would be that bad.

Parking. Parking on most of campus is impossible during school hours, unless you ride a scooter/motorcycle. It may be quite different for law because they have 2 huge lots and the street, but idk.BB6139 wrote:

Ugh. I had hoped those days were behind me along with undergrad. Looks like I'll still be one of those creeps that stalks people to their parking spot if I don't invest in a bike. Thanks for the heads up though.

If money is the issue, that's understandable, but I can't imagine living in Gainesville w/o a car. But people do it.MikeM-law wrote:For me cheaper is always better. My first semester at UF I didn't have a car, it wasn't bad! The bus system is great I never had a problem with it. The only thing that sucks about not having a car is grocery shopping, but I lived in a dorm so when I went grocery shopping I bought only what I could carry. when I did have a car I kept it in the parking garage during the week ( if I moved it I risked not finding parking) and only really drove it on the weekends.

Not a thing. I'm giving it like another week and half before I try asking again.BB6139 wrote:Has anyone heard anything about scholarships after the reported meeting in the middle of last week?

FWIW, I scoped through last year's thread and it seemed the majority of applicants started receiving word in April re: scholarship money.

They like to make sure that Florida is the first choice it seems. Smart move, I prefer admissions to do a thorough job, makes me feel less like a number/ranking slave and more like a true applicant looking to practice law, even if I am one of the few suffering on a decision right now.

The overwhelming majority of UF Law students live in 1 of the 4 apartments on 34th street (from nicest to not: Cazabella, Pointe West, Village 34, Camelot). I'm at Cazabella and there are about 35 people in my class here. There are a few trust fund babies that live in the Bartram. Driving in Gainesville is a must though if you life in one of the complexes I mentioned above carpooling should be easy.
Parking at the law school is fine as long as you are there by 9:30 each day. They got rid of street parking but opened up parking on frat row.

Thanks I'll definitely check those out. Is Bartram supposed to be the nicest place near the school?

Yes. It's pretty much a resort and has a meditation garden in addition to the usual luxury amenities. If you can afford it, more power to you.dasani13 wrote:Is Bartram supposed to be the nicest place near the school?

UF Law has re-assumed the mantle as the #1 law school in the State of Florida, a position it has occupied every year except last year since the U.S. News Rankings began.
