Just got waitlisted. Does everyone get an interview before they make a final decision? Or are you guys signing up somewhere?

They don't invite everyone to interview, and to be accepted you must interview. They'll send you an email with available times to schedule the interview if you're selected for one.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Just posting here to clarify what I said:Pneumonia wrote:I think this one area of several in which adcoms aren't quite as open about their preferences as they want to be perceived. I know KB no longer has as much of an incentive to be disingenuous, but even in her answer (as you wrote it) there is some hedging: of course they expect most 0L to be undecided, but that doesn't mean they expect most 0L at Harvard to be undecided too.drawstring wrote: Thanks for that. If only it were around when I had my JS1!
I also got asked about what I what type of law I want to do, and I said that I wasn't totally sure yet and that it would come as I became more familiar with different types of law. After the interview I started to question whether that suggested a lack of a coherent plan or direction, which may be especially hurtful for a KJD. I asked Karen Buttenbaum and she said that they expect most 0Ls to be unsure about what they want to do upon entering law school, but I still think about whether that was a mediocre answer to give.
It is understood that many people change their minds on a career path while in law school, but it is expected that you have a decent answer to the question of "why do you want to go to law school" or "what are you interested in studying in law school"
Hope that helps clarify things!

Thanks Karen! This makes a lot of sense and I've linked your reply in the original post that the discussion was about!KarenButtenbaum wrote: Just posting here to clarify what I said:

To those of you who've sent LOCIs - does Harvard usually email back an acknowledgement of receipt or should I just assume that they’ve received it. I’m thinking of sending a loci and want to know what to expect after I send it

Have we gotten confirmation that they are not looking at the waitlist until May? I would like to get my deposit out of the way if so!
It would be my luck to get a call 5 minutes after depositing hundreds of dollars elsewhere

Then you must be a lucky one! Hahapseu wrote:Have we gotten confirmation that they are not looking at the waitlist until May? I would like to get my deposit out of the way if so!

Pretty sure they're not taking anyone off the wait list until their deposit deadline (May 1st), so deposit away!

They probably won't be taking anyone until mid May at the earliest. Last year the bulk of WL JS2s reported came from the 22nd-27th of May, though they've been ahead this year and maybe that will continue (plus an adcom said action would start around the 15th-20th).

Thanks to both of you!
I should specify: with my luck, if I were to get the call, it would be right then. Without that condition, it does sound like I have great luck... I wish

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Anyone have a rough (or guessed) percentage of the distribution of WL acceptances? Like the percentage of those accepted in May, June, July, and August.

IIRC, last cycle nearly all the dated WL acceptances on LSN at least were in May, but I'm not sure of exact percentages.

I feel you man.
That long, painful uncertainty.......

At least there is only a week left till they start reading WL applications, assuming what they adcom said at ASW is correct.

We actually don't know how much more at all. No one knows how much representation LSN has for wait list information.fleurdelis2 wrote:80+ listed on LSN, so much much more than that.Marshmallow wrote:I'm on it, so I'm guessing a lot.nothingtosee wrote:Any guesses on how many people are on the waitlist?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I'm conflicted. I haven't had a JS1 so I'm thinking about sending a LOCI but then I feel like if I get a JS1 I'll have nothing new to say when asked Why Harvard. Should I just be slightly vague in my LOCI and go into more depth in my JS1 or what?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
