I would assume this is right. As for the lack of any acceptances, the only thing I can figure is they want to settle their ED acceptances (and thus tied up scholarship commitments) before accepting people RD who they will probably want to give some money.
Then again, the sadist theory sounds solid too.

I agree- maybe Northeastern's new financial strategy has thrown them off a bit, too.

What exactly is northeastern's new strategy? Though I'm not sure if Northeastern's cycle would influence BU's, since I don't think they'll really be competing for (many) of the same students.

Northeastern is throwing a lot of money around this year, which is unlike them. I still don't think they'll be competitive with BU or BC.

Northeastern never used to give much money. this year they granted deans scholarships (30k) to many (relatively) people. I don't think this is on BUs mind and they don't typically compete for the same students but maybe a few will be swayed.

I'm not saying they are on the same level, or that this is the defining reason for the decision delay. However, if you look in the BU, BC, NE forums, there is a lot of overlap. If a law student is accepted to BU at sticker, and NE at 90k, then they might lose some prospective students.

Fair enough, it's a personal decision. I'm sure we'll all find ourselves in a similar situation at some point this cycle.

Looks like they're actually making ED people wait until the 20th. Craziness.

If they're waiting until the 20th for ED responses then I'd be willing to bet on January decisions for RDers.

My header changed, that's all though.
Related: judging by this thread and the BC thread especially, it's a good thing "patience" isn't an attribute they take into account in their admittance decisions

hahahahaha. i know, im crazy. but i think its partly because traditionally BU (and to some extent, BC) is pretty quick with calls. Before they started ED program they admitted people before thanksgiving! so i guess i just had high expectations.
