Haha well the email did say that official awards have not been released yet, and I was only informed because I will be on campus this week. It also mentioned that in the "coming weeks" official notifications will be sent. So I don't think not getting an email necessarily means you won't get an award!

I appreciate you trying to make me feel better. It's okay. I have come to terms with not getting any $$ from NYU.

Does anyone know if the ASW is something I should show up to empty-handed, or should I bring a pen and notebook and such? Probably a dumb question, but I figure I might as well ask.

Congrats. Hopefully they didn't send all of these at once. Do you have to write an essay, or does this just mean they are going to deliberate a bit more before they notify you if you receive an award? Will they let you know if you receive one before deposit deadlines?

It didn't say anything about an essay, the amount, or official date (just said "coming weeks"). I guess they want to see how my meeting goes with the Professor, or maybe they already know how much I'm getting and are just setting me up with him to be nice. Either way, it's definitely good to know in advance, although I don't think not getting an email= no $$.

Anyway- headed to NYC right nowwww, hope to meet some of you this week :)

NYU 1L here (currently in class  ) I don't remember bringing anything with me to ASW. If I remember correctly, they give you a packet that includes some sort of notebook or something. Anyways, any information I might have wanted to write down was available in the ASW packet, so there really wasn't any need to write information down.

Also, Congrats to everyone! PM me if you have any questions/would like to hear my experience here thus far.

Does this whole "have time to surf TLS in class" thing happen often?? cause if so I´ve been seriously misinformed about 1L...

Completely depends on your professor. The professor I'm with wrote one of the textbooks we're reading from, so what he says in class is pretty much a direct recitation of what he wrote in the book (which makes me less likely to focus on every word he says in class). 1L is hard not because the material is excessively time consuming, its hard because the stakes are high (career prospects) and there is a certain amount of uncertainty (arbitrary grading, relatively little feedback, etc.), and your classmates are smart as heck.

Ahhh jealous! I won't be at ASW for another month! Although I will be heading out to NYC at the end of next week, so I guess I can't complain that much. But I still want to meet everyone!

Congratulations, very jealous!

Two questions when you get the chance: did you write a supplemental essay or use your PS, and are you going to the ASW this weekend?

So only seen two RTK finalists here so far, right? Anybody know if these were rolled out last year or all in one day?

Thanks, all.

I submitted with both a PS and a supplemental, but both focused heavily on PI experience/topics and what in my life motivates that commitment. I write well, so I figured it could only help.

I'm not going to ASW this weekend. I was hoping to, but they haven't issued stipend decisions and I've been awaiting those. I was laid of from my (PI) job in January, so money is a bit tight. I may try to make the next one, but to a certain degree, the ASW doesn't matter; if i were to get the RTK, I'm going. Period. If I don't, it might be hard to turn down other $ offers for NYU, especially with COL. Either way, there are two more ASWs and time for an individual visit if necessary. I'm still determining my schedule of ASWs.

Does anyone know if NYU hands out $ to the named-schollie finalists that aren't selected?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
