Haha, I went up the hill once by the grass and by the steps. I could barely make it up the grass. The steps were a lot of fun, though.cpajd wrote:You should've taken a run up and down the hill from the law school to the stadium a few times while in town. There are some pretty good tailgates during football season, right by the steps to the school. Game days really are great!

I'm pretty excited. I've been at two colleges and neither had any real sports going on. Should be a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll get to go to a game or two during the year (basketball, too!).
The area is really nice, from what I saw. But my GOD is the traffic bad. Holy shit! I can only imagine how bad it will be during the school year itself...

Was there road work going on? Traffic should be barely noticeable this time of year. University (the road that the law school is off of) is pretty bad when school is in session.joncrooshal wrote:I'm pretty excited. I've been at two colleges and neither had any real sports going on. Football, basketball, and soccer games are all pretty fun games to go to. IMO, Dick Dlesk Stadium (the soccer field) has the best atmosphere of all the games.

University road was pretty bad, but it was rush hour. I was talking to a few people who said that it can be a nightmare during the school year at times. Hey, it is what it is.WVUCelticFan wrote: Was there road work going on? Traffic should be barely noticeable this time of year. I had the pleasure of watching some great soccer at my undergrad. We had a pretty good team the last two years (Monmouth University).

I agree that this time of year traffic is not too bad usually. During the school year you'll definitely want to take some back roads where possible (I do and it makes a huge difference most days). There is the rush hour phenomenon in Morgantown though, so expect mornings and afternoons to require several minutes more. All in all, its not like major city traffic or anything. Most times you can probably get across town in 10 or 15 minutes (not so bad), unless you go through the heart of the downtown main campus via University Ave. That can double your time. Luckily, as you've seen, the law campus is completely separate.
I've never been to a soccer game, but I can speak for basketball and football. WVU is really enjoying unprecedented athletic success. You'll quickly realize that, without any pro sports, WV citizens really embrace their Mountaineers and the pride shows everywhere you look.

Maybe someone can speak to what would be the better commuting option coming from Osage or the University Town Center area. Would I be better to travel 19 to 705 and turn onto University Avenue or continue on 19 to 8th street and cut across to University. Speaking strictly of traffic and time. Thanks

Re: West Virginia 2011
I'd say cutting to 8th would be a much better option most of the time. 8th is right where the speed limit changes and its rarely backed up bad there except on Friday afternoons. Taking Patterson (the section of 705 you are talking about) will normally have more traffic and you'd have to fight your way past Towers.lbeeman2007 wrote:Maybe someone can speak to what would be the better commuting option coming from Osage or the University Town Center area. Thanks for the tip. That's what I thought from driving it last time I was out, but school was out so I couldn't gauge traffic well.WVUCelticFan wrote:I'd say cutting to 8th would be a much better option most of the time. 8th is right where the speed limit changes and its rarely backed up bad there except on Friday afternoons. When is everyone moving in? I'll be moving out the second week of July. We should try to get a few of us together for drinks one night this summer.

If you'll accept a non-wvu law 0L, I'll be in and out of Morgantown over the summer and can meet up with anyone and show people around a little.lbeeman2007 wrote:Thanks for the tip. Summer drink suggestions: Bent Willys ('Bent') for the club scene. It wont be nearly as crowded as during the school year and the deck is nice.
Brew Pub is one of my favourite places and has nice deck area as well. All the stuff on tap is what they brew.

I'm down. Where are you living? I want to avoid study groups and shit while I am at WVU, but I am fine to have a beer with some cool people once in a while.lbeeman2007 wrote:Thanks for the tip. I found a great deal on a house in Osage. My fiance and I couldn't pass on the deal since we know we will be staying in the area for a while. It is outside of the mess of undergrad and only a 15 minite ride to campus with no traffic.

Got all my mix, star and my fin aid info all started. It was a big confusing to start but you can change passwords after you started.

MIX is easily the most confusing school email service I have ever seen. WVU ID is your 700#
Mix ID is the first letter of first name, first five letters of last name, #
MIX pin defaults to your two digit date of birth and last four digits 700#
Master ID you activate once you have the above two.

Apparently I can't activate my Master ID until I'm registered for classes (which I guess the registrar will have done for all 1Ls in a month or so).WVUCelticFan wrote:They should be sent to you.lbeeman2007 wrote:Where do you request these?joncrooshal wrote:Got my WVU ID and MIX ID.Champion of the Sun wrote:Has anyone accepted from the pool who paid the seat deposit gotten any info regarding their online user id yet, I paid my deposit and haven't heard anything yet, and if you were accepted from the pool are you considered for any scholarship $?

The WVU ID should be on your class of 2014 site that they directed you to. It's up top in red letters.

If you want something REALLY close, look at Terrace Heights. You can actually take the stairs up from the apartment to the law school. It's on the hill right below the law school. Last I heard, they still had a room or two left.Cwarrior57 wrote:Anyone looking for a roommate? I need a place to stay that's close to campus or with someone that drives. PM me.

What does anyone think about living in Westover? Its just across the river and I've seen some decent places there. How bad fo the roads in and around Morgantown get when it snows? This could be the only problem if they are really bad.

All I know is traffic fucking sucks and I'd recommend living as close as possible.
