Having to beat out 60 out of 85 people sounds like a terrible time to me.
I mean, of course I'm planning on working hard and being organized and having everything planned out, but from what i've learned from tons of people on TLS is that even if you're super smart and study a lot, that doesn't necessarily mean you know how to take a law school exam. I'm kind of hesitant to take such a risk and end up paying sticker after a year :/

Just to clarify, I was not saying that if you plan and study a lot then you will get As; just that those who got As all planned properly and mastered the exams. That doesn't conflict with the TLS consensus... Regardless, I can understand being hesitant of the riskiness of trying to beat out 60 equally qualified people. It is a scary thing.

On that note, I'm off to finish my LRW memo for the rest of the day.

In with $87k...seems to be a pretty standard scholly package. Also certainly among the nicer admit packets I've seen so far.

Although I'm agreed that the 30% stipulation may end up a deal-breaker. If I don't get into UCLA, USC or Davis I'll give them a much more serious look, but right now I'm hesitant.

this may have been answered already, but loyola does NOT section stack, correct? that would obviously put much more of a damper on the 30% stip.......


also, did anyone who applied here also apply to san diego? does anyone have an opinion/comparison of the two? they are ranked the same, but i'm having trouble comparing and getting some conflicting information about which is better (i want to practice in SD, not LA).

Loyola does not section stack. Go to USD if you want to practice in SD. But, SD is a small market, so you might want to reconsider that plan.

I want to do PI or something in the government area, not biglaw, so I think either market would accommodate me (if I did well enough obviously)... I'm more curious if reputation wise people think that Loyola is generally more well known and respected?

Loyola may have the bigger name due to being the largest law school in California and its location in a major market. Loyola also did significantly better than USD on the July 2010 Bar exam (84 percent vs 65 percent). Incidentally, Loyola also outperformed UCLA, Hastings and Davis on the bar.

thank you to everyone for the feedback-- i am definitely going to have to go back and do more research on loyola... at first glance USD seems very appealing to me, but with regards to job prospects and bar passage, loyola may just be the smarter way to go...

I am close friends with practicing Alumni ('85), recent grads, and current students of LLS, so here is my opinion about it all. Both Loyola and San Diego are great schools, but both are regional. The only stipulation being that Loyola has a little more reach than USD does...so it really depends on where you want to practice. For the SD market, USD is prob. your best bet and you will be able to get a solid job if you work hard (Top 30th of your class?) and pass the bar...the job market is rough so you can't take your school for granted. If you want LA and a better shot at BigLaw in general, LLS is prob. where you want to go...but even then you still have to kick some ass during school. I've read a lot of articles about how the job market is bad, especially for lawyers, but I know from the recent Loyola grad that if you work your ass off the jobs are still there for you.

That being said...GOOD LUCK to everyone applying...my app is complete with Loyola and am anxiously awaiting good news. Hope to see ya next year

Also got an email from Admissions today about different events during Feb-March that "admitted students are welcome to attend" ...Anyone else receive this email?? I would think this would mean you're accepted if they send this, but it could just be another tease

DONT THEY KNOW THIS IS WHEN I LIKE TO CHECK MY STATUS? hahaha... anywayy still waiting. got into hastings yesterday-- i know they dont give any money really, but they have the dean call all (most?) of the admitted students and on the call he referenced actual points in my personal statement, like i could tell he had at least skimmed my file, if not read my whole statement. i find this pretty amazing, and it makes me feel like i wouldn't be just a number there (which i do sort of feel about loyola). anyone here deciding between the two?

while the dean skimming over your ps is a nice touch, I wouldnt extend that to mean that your education at Hastings will be more personalized. Of course, this is not to say that Hastings isn't an excellent law school.

As for your application, buckle up. You are in for a potentially long wait. Your status checker should have every box checked except the academic disclosures box which they dont check until they has received hard copies from CAS.
