I dunno, YP is generally done through the waitlist. I'd say there's something wrong with masson's app, but she's already been accepted to better schools. Very confusing.

When we talk about YP we mean "Yield Protection." Yield describes the percentage of admitted students who decide to enroll. Every school works to have a strong yield (meaning every school wants to admit students who have a strong desire to attend). To say a school practiced Yield Protection means they may have decided to Wait List (or sometimes deny) a student because the school believes the student probably will not attend. Whether schools are or are not using this method is an entirely different argument, but that should help you understand what we mean when we say YP.

It doesn't look very good when you accept a ton of people and only a small fraction of them end up attending. It looks much better if most individuals accepted attend. Thus, a lot of schools will YP people they think won't end up attending.

It does affect USNews rankings... IIRC one things they factor in is the percent of class accepted that eventually matriculates.

Waitlist here as well...

Anyone have a sense of how the list works at Minn? That attachment didn't really provide much info.....
Avg # of people taken off the list in past cycles?
"Generally" when they start going to the waitlist?
"Roughly" how many people end up on the waitlist?
Do they waitlist a % of people with each "batch" of decisions then go back to fill the quota of people the accept?

I don't know how this process works so if anyone has any insight from past years or anything info would be much appreciated! I'm gonna make a visit up there after the new year so for those on the waitlist keep an eye out and I'll try to get some of these questions answered.

Does Minnesota have an appeal option?...Where, per your request, they re-consider your application?

If you really wanted Minnesota, mason, I would do this with additional documentation expressing your interest in the school.

that is, however, unless you added a Why X essay or some other thing in your original application.

Thanks, everyone! I wanted Minnesota because a really good friend is going there for a LLM program, but I guess that's not a good enough reason.
I think the ding just really made me freak out and wonder if there's anything wrong with my application. But the fact that Gtown, Vandy and Texas already said yes to me just makes the whole thing confusing. I'm gonna go back to look at the pdf of my application, hope I didn't spell the school's name wrong.

My guess is that UM puts all completed apps UR when they go into the queue for review. The second update likely represents when they're actually looking at them. All the RD admits thus far (from what I can tell) submitted before I did (first week of November). My #s are above both 75s.

For those of you trying to decode the status update phenomenon, mine changed to 12/17 as well. I had been IR for a while, but don't remember the exact date. Submitted 11/01.

LSAT +75th and GPA right around median.
