Re: IN AT PENN
I just got mine, and it included a merit scholarship. The scholly wasn't huge but decent, and I was surprised to see the "Law Grant", which I assume is need-based, was quite substantial.hopefullaw27 wrote:same...need based aid for law school? pshhh, oh what a fictitious creature...so you think scholly decisions will come later?

Re: IN AT PENN
Just got the financial aid info. Shocked to see a very substantial Law Grant, which is need based. With this, I couldn't be more excited about going to Penn!!

Do we need to fill out anything for merit based scholarships?

Re: IN AT PENN
Hey all, I apologize if this has been answered previously, but I didn't see it.
Was accepted last week and received that big packet today. Very interested in finding out the financial aid info. Anyone have an idea what my timeline for receiving this info will be? Also how will I hear (snail mail, email)? I appreciate your collective wisdom.

Yeah, my FAFSA wasn't sent in until a couple days ago though. Were you all recently admitted?

Just received my package today, too. If anyone is willing to share what they considered to be a "substantial/significant" Law Grant, please PM me.

Re: IN AT PENN
You lucky people that have gotten finaid information already!! I was accepted in early to mid January so I'm hoping that I'll hear something next week!
Does anybody know where to find out when we would need to be in Philly to start the 2010 school year? I found the academic calendar on the main website, but I could have sworn there was some sort of welcome week or orientation a week or two before classes began...I feel like I read about it somewhere, but I CANNOT seem to locate this info anymore. Anyone know?

I'll be at the ASW from Thurs-Sun. Most likely going to Dave & Busters Thursday night, unless I'm exhausted from checking out apartments. I've never been to Philly, but it looks like a pretty cool place. Can't wait!

I just received my finaid package today. Definitely surprised by the need-based aid. Not sure if it will be enough though.

It came in an email with a link to their financial aid site. I thought it arrived hella fast since I only got in a 2-3 weeks ago.

Just got mine, too. Nothing. Pretty surprised I didn't get anything considering I sent them some hefty scholarship offers from other T10s. Wondering if I should even bother going to ASW this weekend.

That really sucks, most of what I got came as need. Did you have much need?

got mine today too... got a small law grant but there doesn't appear to be anything else. Does this mean I'm out for scholarship $??? Or is there still hope?

You might still qualify for a named award, but I would go about it as if I was getting nothing else.

Re: IN AT PENN
Um, yes. I have almost no savings, little income and my parents aren't well-off. Pretty ridiculous that I don't qualify for need-based aid. I assumed need-based didn't really exist at most schools, but it's disheartening to see that it does at Penn and I got nada.smov_operator wrote:That really sucks, most of what I got came as need. Re: IN AT PENN
So I got the fin aid email today and I had a couple of questions. On mine, it had the $20K or so listed for federal subsidized/unsubsidized loans. It had an additional $18K for alternative student loans (these are GradPLUS, right?). Then, it stated that my annual family contribution was approximately $30K!!! They give me the option of taking out additional loans to cover that amount, but do they expect that my family can actually come up with that amount???
The thing is, my parents make decent, middle-class money, but I'm married and on my own. Do they still expect my parents to pay for me even though I have my own indepedent household?
