UR 12/10, updated 12/14, no word on FR yet. I think that we'll be in the next round of notifications (since the FR process starts 1/29, that allows time for them to send another batch of notifications before it starts).regatsrj wrote:Did anyone receive a status update yesterday who went UR after mid-November? I went UR 11/30, so I'm hoping I don't need to read anything into not getting a status update yesterday.

Re: Berkeley 2010
Think about it this way:
7100 applications. Dean Tom personally admits 550 or so. So out of 7100 that is 8% admitted. Of the 1500 or so in faculty review, 200 are admitted which is roughly 13%. This is not an apples to apples comparison but its useful.
Getting sent to faculty review is a good thing. While you are not as good as the top 8% of applicants in Dean Tom's eyes, he is telling you that you are in the top 29% ((550 admits + 1500 FR applicants) / 7100 total applicants).
Basically he's telling you are NOT in the 71% of applicants who ARE at this point DEFINITELY getting rejected/waitlisted.

are we UR's 11/2 looking at a waitlist/rejection? or just a rejection?
do we think FR's will continue to go out or are we done?

Went complete yesterday. Very worried that even though my numbers are good, I submitted too late (12/29) and will be rejected as a result.

Not necessarily. Those with the FR email SO FAR have made it into the 29% definitely not getting rejected as of the start of the FR periods. You might not have gotten the email yet!

I've got identical numbers, but I went UR 3 weeks early (though I had another LoR that didn't arrive until right around that time). I guess I should be expecting an FR email any day now...choco39 wrote:11/30 UR, got the FR email yesterday too. 171, 3.75

Re: Berkeley 2010
so not to be a jerk, but just to clarify the whole reject/waitlist thing...im almost positive dean tom doesnt waitlist. he only rejects, accepts, or sends to faculty review (his version of waitlist?). only the faculty review committee creates a waitlist.

This part I don't understand -- why are they holding on to the rejects? If Dean Tom is not going to pass the rejects to FR, why not send out the rejects already? This almost makes me think the process is somewhat changed and all rejects go to FR first.

No. the first wave of rejections was not until the end of January last year. I see no change from the normal pattern.hopefulincal wrote:This part I don't understand -- why are they holding on to the rejects? Re: Berkeley 2010
For those of you who did not get FR, it is probable Dean Tom did not already extend 550 acceptances yet, so you may still have a chance getting in that way.
Also since FR does not meet until 1/29, and since the deadline is 2/2 all together for the applications, they are probably going to look at the ENTIRE pool to pick the other 29% to go into faculty review..so that means many more will probably end up in Faculty review within the upcoming weeks.
So as of now it is too early to tell what getting in or not getting in FR means for everyone.

Do some applicants go straight into FR? or do all go from UR -> FR?

To chime in --
Faculty Review yesterday. LSAT=75, GPA a hair's breadth below 75th.

Re: Berkeley 2010
unless they really have changed the entire process this cycle, i really think the dean tom interview on this site provides a pretty accurate picture of what the process is like. in addition, if you check my earlier post,i believe there is evidence for there being at least two batches of FR. so lets not have everyone losing heart just yet.

Way to arm-chair quarterback.hopefulincal wrote:I think Boalt could be making a tactical mistake here. All or most of the top students surely know about the tuition issues the UC system is having. Thus many of the top students (especially California residents) are already considering similarly ranked private schools. Furthermore, many of the students they are sending to FR have already been accepted to other top schools like CCNMVP. Come 4/1 when Boalt realizes that enrollment rate is down, it will be too late to get these students back. As a result, they could be looking at a drop in rankings next year.
Students regularly choose Boalt over higher ranked schools and similarly ranked schools. Many of these students get money either way.
Private school tuition will also increase.
Applications are also way up, which would likely offset what you're talking about.
But hey, you're a 0L trolling a Berk thread on TLS, so you must know what's going on.
