is your aid listed as a Dean's Scholarship (i.e. every merit award except Darrow's), or is it need-aid? merit scholarships display as a per year amount, for certain. if you report otherwise youd be the first.

Hm, am I posting in the right thread? Michigan 2016, right? Then again, I got my letter a few months ago. I'll go check my account and see if the format's changed.

Thank y'all very kindly for clearing that up. $54,000 makes more sense than $18,000, and makes me quite the happy camper.

Hopefully it's okay to post this here, but I've started a thread about my UM vs GWU decision and would really appreciate any input:

For those who were already admitted, where you solicited? I'm still pending but received a number of emails, letters, informational packets, etc asking that I apply from the school for months up until I applied. I also received a fee waiver to apply.
Thanks!

I wouldn't read too much into that. I mean, all they've seen is your numbers when they send you all that and there's a laundry list of other things that they can ding you for. That being said, I got all that from Michigan and was admitted. I didn't get any of that from Harvard and, well, I think getting it is a better sign than not.

Thanks for the quick response. I completely understand that a lot goes into the admissions process. I was just curious really.
I actually received similar stuff from Harvard, USC, Duke, and Notre Dame as well. I guess we will see what happens!

Haha, I like you too ohpo. At the moment I'm a toss up between U of M and Cornell (had a really enjoyable visit at the latter this week). How are your options stacking up at the moment?ohpobrecito wrote:I like you MacB, and I hope you go to Michigan (or we both get into Harvard).MacB wrote:Jeebs wrote:For those who were already admitted, where you solicited? Also, if you ever want to grab a beer since we're probably neighbors anyway, I'm totally willing to assume that you're not some internet weirdo w/ a collection of humans in your basement, haha.

Michigan has this classic ploy of hand-writing "We love XXX grads" on everyone's fee waiver letter no matter what your undergrad was so that you feel particularly special. Then when you see everyone else on TLS got the same thing you just return to your disenchanted, disaffected selfJeebs wrote:For those who were already admitted, where you solicited? On a side note: I think it's interesting that this late in the cycle basically every update outs me in some way. Before, there were some many people with the same thing going on we could get away with saying more, but now I am prob the only person who got an updated offer from Mich to 30k based on an NU scholly, the adcoms can take 5 seconds and see who I am.
Oh well, doesn't really matter at this point, I just think it's interesting.

I was thinking about that. It's just the nature of the system. As we get further along in the process everyone has more unique things happening to each of them. With the combination of numbers (even though most of our numbers aren't precisely accurate), complete/update dates, scholarships and correspondence I'm sure the adcoms could identify nearly every single one of us.Micdiddy wrote: On a side not: I think it's interesting that this late in the cycle basically every update outs me in some way. Hey everyone, long-time lurker here. Applied September, waitlisted in the first wave. I would love to go to Michigan -- and though I'm certainly not flush with cash -- I could afford fly out for a visit. Is it worth provoking my boss with a short-notice day off and the cost of traveling out? Anyone have any experience with visiting?

Michigan is notoriously slow with the reception and completion of applications. I would give it some time.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:Submit my application 6 days ago and still haven't received an email with status checker info.. should I give them a call?
