167/3.6, non-urm...so this email rather than a rejection has been a blessing lol

Well two people with 12/7 checkers didn't get the email today so now it seems that it can go one of two ways:

1. The people that didn't get the emails today are acceptances, and the email is a legitiamte hold email.

2. The people that didn't get emails today are rejections / WLs, and the email is legitimately telling us that they are just still reviewing apps.

I guess we'll just have to keep track of the thread, and in particular if people that didn't get emails hear anything from Mich. in the next few days, please let us know.

Does anyone think it wold be wise to send a LOCI right now? It says its they welcome new information but im not sure a LOCI applies and I don't want to annoy them with a superfluous essay.

Just got an email that they have review my application but not yet rendered a decision. I think this is some sort of a hold? Does Michigan do holds? Im above both 75ths so I'm kind of disappointed...wrote a why mich and applied for fall and summer start.

Sounds like yield protection? Would you seriously consider Mich over NYU? Maybe send a LOCI to let them know they are your first choice

It would honestly depend on the money and the fact im from the midwest pulls me there a bit. i think i'll just send another LOR from my current boss. hopefully that will help.

I just got a .... Weird... Email from mich.

"Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan Law School.  Because you went to the effort of applying early in the admissions season, we are concerned that you may feel some disappointment at not having received your answer yet.  We understand the anxiety that the law school admissions procedure can cause, and are therefore writing to update you on the status of your file in an effort to alleviate at least some of that stress."

it goes on to talk about How they have a lot to review and ends with "Our goal is to have all decisions made by the end of April, but most applicants will hear well before that time.  Please be assured that receiving this email does not mean you will not get an answer until then!  It simply indicates that we recognize you have been waiting patiently, and we appreciate that."

Is this a soft deferral/waitlist?

Got the same, not sure if everyone did or what. It seems like everyone has gotten it.

Has anyone NOT gotten this email that's not in? At least then we could know. Guess it's time to draft a LOCI. Damn, really wanted Mich. if this is the case.

My inbox is free and clear of this email as of yet. . . I don't know if thats a bad or good thing at this point.

Guys, relax. This isn't a waitlist. As someone said earlier, a waitlist email is very specific and includes a form to be filled out and returned. This is just Michigan's way of letting us know they haven't forgotten about us (which is exactly what everyone wishes the status checker would do).

I bet all the schools are waiting to see how the 16% drop in applicants shakes out and are consequently moving more slowly this year.

If it's a waitlist, I'll eat my shoe.

Or it was just an oversight... Or those people are accepted and they are legitimately still reviewing apps... There's really no sense in speculating. I sent a quick email confirming my interest, but honestly I think it's just them trying to assuage your neuroses. If they were holding then I imagine they'd just come out and say it rather than speaking in code.
