That killed my last hope. Similar numbers, also with an MA and 9 years of work experience ... sadly awaiting the WL.

Wait, I can give some back! I didn't write any special essay, and the 175 was a re-test, 169 first time around (though with decent excuse for first lower score.) Don't give up hope yet!

family reasons. I'll get off the UVA WL as soon as I get the actual acceptance letter from Georgetown. Still waiting to hear from other schools too.

It perplexes me why UVA takes people with 170/3.0 through ED, then WL's people with 176/3.8.

YP aside, the best justification I can come up with is that ED students pay full sticker, whereas luring in someone like Dignan would require offering a full tuition scholly or close to it. With state budgets hurting, this might just be a devious plan by UVA to fatten their bottom line with a class full of ED applicants. Curious if it will affect their medians.

IMO their medians will stay the same this year, based on ED acceptances (3.85+ or 170+).

Good point. I am going to retake in June, aim for a 171, and then submit an addendum explaining why UVA should accept my lower score.

Lucky guesses the first time - the 171 is much more indicative of your abilities and desire to attend UVA.

I was being sarcastic. I am not stunned. Given UVA's past and current behavior, I was fully expecting to be waitlisted.

UVA Law and the UVA B-School are both self-sufficient from the state; they don't get any money from it. I believe I read that they only take 40% of in-state students because they are expressing their gratitude to the state of VA for the past help.

No, I gotcha. However, on a serious note, I'm saying that nothing is off limits for UVA after this. Nothing. Nobody can expect an acceptance.

I think Virginia state law mandates the 40% requirement, similar to Texas, Michigan, and North Carolina.

171/3.8 is still guaranteed UVa YP. hth
