If it does, the school would likely get in trouble, since it goes against LSAC requirements.

Vandy at NYU?
I wish! NYU is the only school I haven't heard from (and one of the likely WLs I'll be riding out). Also the HLS WL. The scholly is from Berk
Gotcha. The Vandy acceptance deadline is in a week. I had the unfortunate timing of Columbia's last Monday visitation day being a few days afterward, but I'm compensating by instead going to visit Columbia's campus on my own the day before NYU's ASD. (No travel subsidy for individual visitations, alas.)
You'll like Columbia I bet, but not enough to turn down the Vandy

FYI, you shouldn't have to withdraw from schools you haven't heard from in order to accept a scholarship. You definitely can, but schools can't require you to do so.

It says I have to withdraw applications to "all other law schools" - which definitely sounds like it includes pending and WL applications but I guess based on that blog post it can't

From LSAC: "Member law schools should: [...] allow applicants to freely accept a new offer from a law school even though a scholarship has been accepted, a deposit has been paid, or a commitment has been made to another school"
Under the "Commitments" section:
http://www.lsac.org/docs/default-source ... oodadm.pdf
I would clarify with the school in writing ahead of time, to be certain (and so you have something to bring to LSAC if they try to penalize you for not withdrawing)

Dear [NAME],
We hope you are enjoying your spring. As we continue to evaluate applications for the Columbia Law School Class of 2020, we are also reviewing candidates whom we placed on "Hold" earlier in the admissions season. We would like to encourage you, if you have not already done so, to submit a statement of continuing interest in Columbia. To the extent possible, kindly limit the statement to one page. Please send the statement to
admissions@law.columbia.edu no later than Monday, April 17, 2017. Upon receipt of your correspondence, we will add the statement to your file but will not be able to confirm receipt of individual statements.
Please note that as part of the admissions process, we may extend to you the opportunity to interview with the Admissions Committee if you have not already done so.
At this date, we also understand that you may have chosen to go to another law school for the next three years. While we are saddened by the loss of your candidacy, we would appreciate it if you could notify us as soon as possible by emailing
admissions@law.columbia.edu.
Please be advised that should you remain under consideration, we will make every effort to mail your decision no later than April 27, 2017. Thank you again for your continued patience and interest in Columbia Law School.
Warm wishes,
Nkonye Iwerebon
Dean of Admissions
I also received it. Hold in March.

So are people who received the email today and sent in an original LOCI before the March 27 deadline sending in a second one before monday?
Also... just to REALLY freak everyone out, I had coffee with an HLS xL student who told me they NEVER received a response from Columbia. Said he just got into HLS and stopped worrying bc he knew he wouldn't pick it over H, but definitely never got an answer

I am! My first LOCI went into specifically why I wanted to go to Columbia, but I think I'm just going to do a quick resume update in this one and reiterate that if they admit me I will plop down my deposit on the spot.

Reserved today as well, no interview, no hold. Really good chances according to MyLSN, yet this is my 11th waitlist.

Is there anyone else who wasn't held and wasn't interviewed left after all the waitlists this morning? Does this mean we should look for snail mail rejection?

Is it not strange they spend the resources on physically mailing rejection letters instead of just sending an email? Seems like such a strange policy. Also why make people wait longer than necessary to know a given school isn't an option?

It is very strange, but as a Columbia alumna I can say it reflects the modus operandi of the overall institution. Amazing faculty, great location, unnecessary levels of bureaucracy that have a real effect on student experience.

Wait but why are they waiting for LOCI from the rest of us then?

yeah this makes me way more nervous/ depressed rather than less. i.e. if they're going thru some held applications but not others, what does that mean about mine? also, what does that one accepted candidate have that I don't? sigh.

Also there are at least four people on LSN with the same/lower stats than mine and at least one of them has the same major that I do.

Last year I was held in mid-February and got accepted on 4/15, so you never know! I had pretty much given up hope by that point, but then randomly got the email.
