A poll I created on these forums tells me I'm insane to even consider turning down NU's freeride. What do you guys think?

Have you done a pros and cons list yet for each school? Considered other factors like weather, cost of living, travel, etc.?

I believe most of these are negligible (even NY's insane COL) in the long term, and I'm more concerned about future career prospects and being able to get LA biglaw out of school.
Columbia's Ivy prestige is also appealing to me, even though my better judgement is telling me it isn't worth the six-figure debt.

I'm in the same boat except my interests are PI/unicorn jobs. Is your deadline to respond to NU this Friday as well?

It was, but I emailed them 30 minutes ago asking for a 2 week extension, and 10 minutes later got a response that they'll extend the deadline until April 20th. With my first name misspelled :/ Guess it was their way to get back at me lol :)
What kind of unicorn jobs are you after?

Just because I apparently enjoy torturing myself, no one on Hold status (not reserve) has received a response yet, right?

Can someone please clarify something for me? Rejections are given out by snail mail only while reserves and acceptances are through email, right?

I was wondering the same; held in February, LOCI in March, no response yet.

Does it matter when you send an LOCI? I was reserved in Dec.

Also do people usually send additional recommendations with LOCI?

I did, but only bc I had a new recommender who did their graduate work at columbia and knew people on staff (not that it's helped or I've heard anything). i wouldn't recommend it if you didn't have someone new who could add something substantively different than what they've already seen from you

Can people on the WL sit in on classes? I got a little confused, as I thought CLS did not do sit-ins but my most recent call they sounded like I could but it just isn't arranged through them?

Anyone have experience on this?

Anyone can sit in on CLS classes - my guess is you're thinking of Harvard. They have a list on the website of classes available for public consumption

The recommendation came directly from the prof to the offices, so I'm not sure exactly what day it was sent but I believe it was sent within the same week as my LOCI

Oh - interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I must have mixed it up with another school. Whelp, somewhere else to jaunt to. On that note, anyone have classes they enjoyed sitting in on? Preferably something that's remotely possible to follow given it is near the end of the semester.

Does Columbia have a specific day of the week for acceptances? Or should we be frantically checking email every day?

I desperately want to know when hold decisions will start coming out so I can start bracing myself when I check my mail.

same here, not a peep since going complete in the first week of january  is the assumption that they can wait until April 30/the day before their deposit deadline to let us know?

Definitely try to negotiate with Columbia using your NU offer...I can totally understand why you'd want to go to CLS. Best of luck with your decision :)

What's the difference between "Held" and "Reserve." At this point, is it better to be held or reserved?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
