Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
So they don't drop 9 points in the rankings. HAHAHAHAHA! (Last cycle, Dean Brown was just incredibly rude...and now, comeuppance have been had for being oh so very stingy...stingy, stingy, stingy...)manofjustice wrote:They should offer aid to qualified applicants (this is a controversial position?) because the cost of law school has increased far beyond inflation, completely out of proportion to the opportunity most law schools, including Fordham, afford. Why should they? Because if they don't, the majority of Fordham law students, which doesn't get jobs paying the NYC market rate, will drown in debt for the rest of their lives. Is that a good enough reason?dingbat wrote:Whyshould they?manofjustice wrote: I am focusing in on the candidate who is offered money at peer or superior schools but not at Fordham.
Any by the way, why is Fordham spending 500 million (500 million!!!???) on a new building? Is that the proper thing to do when law school costs are spiraling out of control? Shouldn't that 500 million be used to fund scholarships for qualified candidates?
For a long time Fordham didn't give out merit scholarships at all, only need based.
It's only recently that rankings pressure has led them to start bribing students to come.
Do you think they would have empty classes without scholarships? They'd still fill up. Merit schollys are used purely to buy a higher average LSAT/GPA, which has become thè new standard for law schools, but is kinda ridiculous if you think about it (my money says if all schools stopped doing that, the rankings would remain more or less the same)
Obviously, they find that getting a new building is more important that bribing more students and possibly climbing from being ranked 29 to being ranked 27.
Fordham is, was, and will be 3rd best in NYC and thè best shot at NY biglaw outside the T14.

Wait, I thought this was the current applicants' thread at first. Why did moj necro an old thread to post the end of the debate I guess he was having somewhere else?

Well I'm sure the question has been beaten to death, and I shouldn't expect much, but when can I expect news on merit scholarship?JenDarby wrote:Congrats! Re: Fordham c/o 2015/16 (2011-2012 Cycle)
Hi all,
Is anyone here currently attending Fordham using the Post 9/11 GI Bill?
I'm an Army Veteran. Actually I'm still in the Reserves and just recently got accepted.
I'm wondering how easy or difficult it is to work with the school and the VA to get the benefits processed?
I'd really appreciate the info and help.
Thanks.
