according to their profile online, last year they receive just over 8,300 applications. Could applications really have dropped by about 12%? Is this why the cycle has seemed generally slower at most schools?

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Just got put on the waitlist. 3.8 GPA/159 LSAT/strong softs.
I have hope. And I thank the students on the faculty review committe that likely advocated for me to be on, at least, the waiting list.

Straight up rejected today, 178/3.78. A little surprised but fairly weak softs and I guess my Berkeley ambivalence may have shown itself in my app. Congrats to admits.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Waitlisted, 3.35/173, no berkeley specific material in my app, but I wrote about my "diverse" socioeconomic background. I was pretty surprised not to get outright rejected, but bummed to be waitlisted. Still, it was better than I expected and I guess I'll grudgingly admit that they're less numbers focused than most of the rest of the t14.
Will write a LOCI after Feb LSAT scores are released, since I'm legitimately interested in northern California. For the record, starting the yearly Berkeley application thread seems to have some luck.

Similar situation here. 177/3.86, but I think my softs, while not extraordinary, are fairly strong. My ambivalence may also be to blame. Or maybe it's that I didn't study at a top undergrad. Who knows. Congrats to everyone who got accepted.bosox777 wrote:Straight up rejected today, 178/3.78. in!
i'm shocked...
now i'm launched into a major dilemma: stay on the east coast and go to a lesser t-14, or make the journey out west for berkeley. i have never even been to california
Edit: got in yesterday afternoon via status checker/email from CR1.

Hahaha, same conundrum. I'm really not sure about going out to Cali for school, cause right now I don't see myself having intentions to work there.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Berkeley will not hold you back from working back east. In fact, my sense during interviews this past fall was that it was an advantage being a Boaltie wanting to head east vs. being in the glut of MVP students applying to the same places. (100% subjective view. 0% empirical evidence. Everyone I know who wanted NYC or DC is going there--and even a few who wanted Cali ended up accepting back east).Tanicius wrote:amkid100 wrote:in!

Thanks for that, Rotor. Would you happen to have access to any data on Berkeley's job placement, and data that isn't limited to NLJ250 jobs?

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Unfortunately I don't. There are some good, thoughtul pieces on TLS in defense of Berk's job prospects. Because of our strong self-selection to Calif and our great public interest programs, we can be hard to make a direct comparison to our east coast counterparts. Sorry--wish I had more.Tanicius wrote:Thanks for that, Rotor. Would you happen to have access to any data on Berkeley's job placement, and data that isn't limited to NLJ250 jobs?
Also forgot to mention in the earlier post: Congrats to all the recent admits! Come for the ASD!

Good luck to the final day of CR1 people. Here's hoping CR2 is kind.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Anyone have a good theory to explain why some of us didn't get CR1 or CR2, applied before people who have been dinged, waitlisted, and accepted, as well as beforefolks submitted to CR, and haven't heard anything?
Applied 12/6 and nothing.
