Re: In at Duke!
Softs were average/good...I wrote what I thought was a very compelling Why Duke? essay, and I applied for merit aid. I also had the admissions office put me in touch with Career Services to talk directly about placement. Perceived lack of interest should not have been a limiting factor.sundevil77 wrote:To soulleswonder and maggiebre,
Do you mind sharing softs (average, good, great), whether you wrote a Why Duke?, and whether you submitted the need access form? Again, major congrats to both of you!

Haha I know, nothing is really all that surprising anymore. I feel like I'm taking stuff for granted, simply because I know what to expect... especially when you hear back first!Kronk wrote:I love how predictable our cycles are, maggie.

Re: In at Duke!
Scholarship decision mailed today. They received my application 1/26. Looks like they really will get to all the pre-Feb applications before the end of the month. Impressive. Duke definitely has the best admissions process of the schools I applied to.
Based on my numbers I can't expect too much dough, but I should be a good test for how much need factors into the decision. I'm a grad student, first generation college grad, have three kids, grew up poor, parents are still poor, and already have a lot of student debt (wo is me!). If I get more than $45k, I'd have to believe that need was a major factor.
I hope I don't get $0.

If it doesn't show up on your status checker, just email the financial aid office to confirm receipt. I think they only process the apps once per week, so some delay isn't unusual.orphanarium wrote:Congrats on getting into Duke! I hope you get a great offer! 60K. Considering it was mailed Tuesday according to the status checker, that was FAST. Thanks Duke.

My offer came in the mail last night. 60k!
I'm satisfied with the amount given my gpa, but it still may be tough to lure me away from other schools.

Re: In at Duke!
(Warning: run-on sentence ahead!) If I'm overseas and my scholarship decision was mailed 2/9 but I haven't gotten it yet and I'm out of town next week and I want to plan potential ASW visits so would need to buy my ungodly expensive plane ticket, like, NOW, and would only visit Duke if I got $ (not even $$ or $$$... just $, best I can hope for with my #s)...
Can I call them and ask if they'll tell me over the phone? Will schools ever do this?
I mean, it has the potential to be awkward if they're like "Uh... let me check... Oh. Um. We didn't give you any money. Sucker!"... but I'm willing to deal with that.

Re: In at Duke!
That is probably the worst sentence I have ever seen, beside that, just send Dean Hoye an e-mail explaining the situation with your circumstances "not that you need money from them" and that you are planning on trying to visit and any scholarship money would help in your decision then request he attach a pdf of the letter or just let you know of any decision that would be really appreciated, as I doubt they will tell you anything over the phone, e-mail is usually better.parker09 wrote:(Warning: run-on sentence ahead!) Now that is a good sentence.

Thanks! Don't lose hope, I didn't think I'd get an acceptance from Duke based on the long UR time & the fact that I'm a splitter.astro1819 wrote:Congrats! Thanks for the encouragement. I assume you're a high LSAT/low GPA splitter?blue5385 wrote:Thanks! yup, and while that works for lots of schools, I thought Duke was more GPA-centric and would be unlikely to take me for that reason.astro1819 wrote:Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah, Duke has that reputation, but this cycle it seems to be more LSAT-centric. Way to go though! 3 splitters were waitlisted yesterday according to LSN, so looks like they liked your application for other reasons as well.blue5385 wrote:
