No grants showing up on my account, but there is a "Federal Perkins Loan" for a small amount. I haven't seen this before on other school's sites. Does anybody else have this, too?

It's been so long I forgot my login info
Last time this happened I had to attempt to create new accounts until I got a username is in use then went through all my passwords...and still didn't write it down. Ugh..
Eta: shows 20500 grant aid leaving a COA of 210k roughly, depending on interest rates

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
update:
after speaking with finaid office, here's what the deal is:
1. i was told finaid offers were finalized last night (not sure if this means for all applicants), which is why people are slowly seeing their respective pages continue to update little by little.
2. formal finaid letters should be going out soon.
3. i was told that any sort of number that you see next to "My Gift Aid" or "Grant - Law" is only comprised of need-based grants at this moment (despite what it says otherwise). It does not include any scholarship offers (i.e. matching scholarships) yet.
I'm finding point #3 hard to believe for several reasons, but it seems like a way we can at least try to test the validity of #3 would be to see how the finaid page of a person who has formally received a matching scholarship offer (saw at least one on this thread?) looks. Does it include a separate column/category for the matching scholarship? If it doesn't, then we might just have to wait for the formal communication regarding matching to come.

+1. Will DEFINITELY be withdrawing from Berkeley if this is true. Just too expensive! And I wrote every single optional essay there was to get scholarship funds so I'd be a little sad just for my time's sake as wellRSterling wrote:I'm seeing a net cost and award details tab, but it's just loans there. Bumming hard about no need aid. I hope that what they told you is true and I might still get a matching scholarship!helix23 wrote:Very informative, thank you. I hope #3 is true.djwjddl wrote:update:

#3 confirmed. Guess if you want matching you gotta wait for the formal letter.djwjddl wrote:update:

Wait we won't know until we get a formal letter if we get one at all? Like snail mail? What if we're at ASW when those show up to our mailbox?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Berkeley officially has the silliest, most unnecessarily complicated finaid website/process ever.
So I was able to confirm #3 as well. More importantly I found out that the April 15th deadline is actually only a tentative intent to enroll deadline. The admissions response sheet should be on your admitted student website and you should submit your response by April 15th if Berkeley is a serious option for you but you are not 100% certain of your intent to enroll. Hope someone was wondering about that.

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I just logged in and I also saw a $21,000 need grant for this year from Berkeley on my financial aid page. I'm going to submit my matching scholarship form in the next couple of days to see if they will match my $30,000 a year scholarship offer from UVA (for a total of $90,000), though I'm not too optimistic. I'm assuming that would affect the grant amount if they did?
UVA's scholarship deposit deadline is Friday, so it looks like I'm going to have to pay that and then possibly be out $500 later if Berkeley comes through. With the grant from Berkeley, it is not automatically renewable, so I can't assume and depend on getting it my second and third year. With UVA I could be sure that I would get $30,000 each year (unless my GPA drops below 2.3). If I was guaranteed the grant each year at Berkeley, I feel like my options between the two would be more comparable.
I wonder how many scholly's UVA ends up funding from those seat deposits that people end up forfitting? I'm sure quit a few.

Straight rejected 120k UVA offer on matching scholly. 176/3.84
Well then. You're perfect for me, Berkeley, but you cost way too damn much relative to other places.
