Hey Prospective Students!

If you're thinking about coming to Michigan as a summer starter and you think you might need summer housing, you should consider teaming up with another student and subletting my 2BR apartment! If you're interested, my flatmate and I would be willing to give you a tour during one of the Preview Weekends!

Description: LIVE HALF A BLOCK FROM THE LAW SCHOOL IN A BEAUTIFUL 2-BEDROOM APARTMENT!!! We live in a really great third floor apartment in a converted house on Monroe, so it's super close to everything - within sight of the law school and Doms (aka where you will be spending significant time after-hours). It has an open floor plan, eat-in kitchen, wood floors, and lots of natural light. The bedrooms are big and furnished, and both of the double beds were new in August when we moved in. One of the bedrooms has French doors and the other has a big window that opens onto the top of the fire escape/roof - it has proven handy in more than one situation. PLUS there is an AC unit in each bedroom, which becomes critical very quickly. We each pay $675 per month, per room, but will of course negotiate on summer rent!

Does Wolverine Access financial aid information give you your EFC somewhere? I'm really struggling to find it. Also, would EFC be about the same for every school?

EFC is shown on your FAFSA when you finish. I also believe if you log back into FAFSA, you can see it there.

Thanks, yeah I just found that. Since FAFSA considers all grad students independents, won't our EFC be 0 unless we have personal wealth ourselves?

FWIW, my EFC is listed as 0 and that shouldn't be the case if they took into account my parents income.

They also look at need access stuff too AND your parent income

I don't think UM considers parent income as they don't require it for NeedAccess...unless they just look at the parent's info on your FAFSA.

Did any other in-state applicants receive a "out-of-state" classification on their financial aid notice? I want to know if this is an everybody problem, or just a problem of mine.

Although i haven't been accepted (WL for now...) i was sent the residency verification form by the admin office right after submitting my app. A mixture of events like being born out of the state and something else factored into it. But it also happened for UG at UMICH. I would call the Admin office to check and make sure it isn't a mistype, since getting the residency verification can take forever. I sent my completed form back in December and they just started reviewing last week. The residency office works through the university as a whole, not the law school. So your app is in queue behind all the undergrads and other grad students.

Just an FYI. If they require you to do the residency form, do so ASAP and ask for a rush, if they will do it.

Went into the office today. Took five minutes to fix the discrepancy. Apparently it had to do with a study abroad trip I went on last summer. Who would've guessed?

Hi, does anyone know whether the deposit/acceptance deadline for Mich is earlier than the normal one of April 30th if you've been offered a Dean's Scholarship? I don't have my letter readily available and don't see it online.

Right. Mine always shows "complete" with an updated date. There's no "Under Review" or anything like that, right? I'll just check one day and it will say "Decision Rendered" or something like that, right?

I think Michigan and other schools do consider your parents income but they don't ask directly for the info. If they didn't, half of us broke students would get some need-based financial aid. Looking at the zip code where you lived during undergrad, your UG debt, and asking if you received Pell Grant aid are all ways to make a good estimate of your parents income.

Many schools also look at the zip code in which your high school was located. Not sure if Michigan does or not but figured I'd throw it out there as another factor that enables schools to get a sense of parents' income.

When I emailed them they confirmed that the Pell Grant was the main factor in determining your historical need, so this is credited.
