What's the consensus on scholarships? Should we wait until March like we should for NYU? Or do they give you unsolicited aid like Michigan? Haven't heard anything from them since acceptance.

My (limited) understanding is that merit based aid comes from being nominated for the few named scholarships. Most people hear about those soon after they are accepted (1-2 weeks). Otherwise, it is all need-based, and they give you an offer in early March.

They might do another round of invitations at a later point (I'm not really sure) but I don't think you can negotiate for a named scholarship. You can probably use that leverage to increase a regular scholarship when those come in.

This is not even close to true. Nobody has posted scholly info yet for this year.

It comes out in March, but it's merit based. Like most schools Penn claims to consider need, but don't expect to outperform your numbers. The amounts usually cap out at 20k/yr.

You'd know if you got one because you'd be invited to write an essay for it. A bunch of them went out a week or so ago for the full rides and half rides.

So I went UCR for the second time today (first on 2/9). Anybody else get their second UCR today? Does this mean I'll be getting a decision soon?

FWIW, it's probably a good sign that you went 1st UCR to 2nd UCR so fast... the fast ones are usually auto admits or auto rejects, and you aren't the latter

A cursory glance through the very earliest stages of this thread will answer your question about the timeline. People who applied in October are still waiting for responses. People who applied long after have been rejected or waitlisted. That you applied to UCLA and received a response in a week is not the norm.

That you are considering writing an LOCI after being under review around a month is ridiculous. Yes it would be unreasonable for you to do anything at this stage until you hear a response. You applied late in the cycle, are at the very back end of the applicants.

For some strange reason he is INCREDIBLY annoying -- and that is for someone who has been admitted to many of the same so called schools he has applied. Is it just me? I don't want to be too harsh on the bloke. But I don't want to passively encourage him either.
