I wonder if there's a reason they don't just put up a blog post saying, "We're done accepting people. If you haven't heard from us yet, we're deciding between wait-listing and rejecting you."
Do they gain something from our false hope, is transparency bad in and of itself, or is the hope not entirely false?

Maybe they don't want to commit to anything, just in case 80% of their class withdraw this weekend.

I completely agree. A little transparency and humanity throughout this process would have really made things much easier for everyone.

Maybe they don't want to commit to anything, just in case 80% of their class withdraw this weekend.

I get that they want to stay flexible, but if they told me my best chance was a waitlist, then called me with an acceptance, I wouldn't complain. I guess some people would have withdrawn by now if they were certain that there were no acceptances left, but if that's what they're trying to prevent, it seems a little shady. Not even remotely unethical, but no one likes to be strung along.

they would never do that because if they did there would be a huge surge of withdrawals from those who do not want to be on the WL...and i don't think that would help their yield (I dont think withdrawals are counted).

Ive heard the opposite of GSB (they prefer older people), but maybe I heard wrong. I think top law schools have started preferring candidates that have been out of school for some time. Being out of school I think just helps in terms of "soft" factors.

This is incorrect. GSB admits some college seniors unlike most business schools but majority of its admits have work experience..the average work experience for GSB is 4 years. I don't think Stanford turns away 'old' applicants...what exactly to you mean by old? 25? 30? 40?

Dinged! My first of the cycle. I called because I got the DLS...I'm abroad and can't check the mail. I'm genuinely disappointed, but that's okay. Congrats to all of you who got in. Right now, it looks like -- unless by some wonderful miracle I get off the WL at Harvard -- I'll be heading to Berkeley this fall. But good luck to all of you still waiting.

I'd say being out of school for 1 to 5 years is generally a good thing for top law schools. If you're over 30, they might wonder more if you'd be a good "fit" for the class, but I don't think it hurts you otherwise...

DLS today, called and found out it's a ding. 3.7 (>4.0 at degree granting institution), 175, 2 graduate degrees with >4.0, non-URM, March complete.

Oh well, it was worth a try. So excited to do a full application cycle next year
