Re: SMU 2010!
Does anyone know if it is possible to get loans for the spring semester only? I won't need my unsubsidized loans this fall, but I can't figure out how to indicate that under accept/decline awards. I know I can always just return the money as soon as I get it, but maybe there is a better way?

Re: SMU 2010!
So it looks like we have orientation the 17th and 18th (Tuesday & Wednesday) of August, but then Thursday off?
Classes begin on Friday.
Any idea what orientation is? Do we need to dress spiffy?

The sheet they sent in my admission packet said we had orientation the 16th, 17th, and 18th and then classes started the following Monday. Did they change it?kalvano wrote:So it looks like we have orientation the 17th and 18th (Tuesday & Wednesday) of August, but then Thursday off?

And as far as the dress code, the sheet I'm referencing didn't specify. I'd be surprised if they wanted us to dress up for it, though. Since they stressed that the dress was casual for the admitted student's days, I'm sure it wouldn't be any different for orientation days.

Re: SMU 2010!
Huh. I don't remember a sheet, but I'll double-check.
I was looking at the website's academic calendar. Tuesday and Wednesday were specified new student orientation, Thursday was marked international and transfer student orientation.
I ask about dress because Wake wanted us looking spiffy for photos and such.
They also have a list of 1L courses, times, and professors on the website if anyone is interested.

I'm not too sure. I'll shoot them an email tomorrow about orientation dates as well as dress and post the response tomorrow if they get back to me quickly enough.kalvano wrote:Huh. I don't remember a sheet, but I'll double-check.

Re: SMU 2010!
my understanding is that orientation is 17th and 18th with classes starting on friday, the 20th.
The other person might be giving the part-time orientation schedule.

Yeah from what I understand the full-time orientation is the 17th and 18th and then we have the day off on Thursday before classes start on Friday. As far as dress code I have no idea.cafloyd12 wrote:I'm not too sure. No.
I finally called the Aetna Student Health. That $500 one was for part-time students only, they just didn't mark it as such.
For full time students, annual coverage is $1530 or so. Which still isn't bad for the level of coverage you get.

And that is included in the "fees" total provided by the school? Or is that in addition to the fees total?kalvano wrote:tinyone wrote:Kalvano did u ever get a response to your health insurance e-mail?

No, it is not included in the fees. Health insurance is separate. But it is mandatory. You don't have to get SMU's health insurance, but it's pretty good for the cost. You can get a cheap emergency-only coverage for about $55 a month (BC/BS), and that will suffice.
You have to manually waive coverage and provide proof of insurance, else they will simply add the fee for insurance to your student account.

It's exceptionally expensive. Almost triple the cost.
The Aetna site lists a spouse as $1818 a semester and $876 for the summer. Not sure what kind of package discount they might give.

Has anyone been able to do the "honesty tutorial?" It's listed on Access under 'Holds.'

Thanks Betasteve. Have any idea where I can find a copy of the schedule for first year evening students? Is it uniform for all of us or is it different for different students?

Re: SMU 2010!
If you look up the evening course times (there is only 1 evening section) for Contracts I Civ Pro I and Torts I, you can figure out the schedule. LRW sections have not been assigned yet.

It was posted earlier in the thread. Hopefully this link will take you to that post. Scroll down past the full time schedule and you'll see the evening schedule.cafloyd12 wrote:Thanks Betasteve. Re: SMU 2010!
Anyone have any idea when we'll actually be registered?
I keep feeling like I've missed something when I look at access.smu and it says, "You are not enrolled in classes" and "You are not registered for classes in this term."
