Not intended as a jab - Duke is really making it rain for some 169er's, and congrats to those ppl.

Wow, I've never felt worse about scoring a "measly" 168. Facing probable waitlist instead of being offered 60k if I had scored one more point. Ouch.poprox wrote:Not intended as a jab - Duke is really making it rain for some 169er's, and congrats to those ppl.

That $60k is all the 1 point is worth lol. 1 more point for me and I'd have $75k at Virginia rather than my waitlist. The whole process comes down to that last point.astro1819 wrote:Wow, I've never felt worse about scoring a "measly" 168. Very true. Once you're already in the 97-98th percentile range on the LSAT, every single point after that is a significant increase, from a statistical standpoint. At that end of the bell curve, to go from a 174 to 175, or from 168 to 169 is HUGE. LS admissions is truly a numbers game to a large extent, and the scholarship selection process seems to be as well.Jericwithers wrote:That $60k is all the 1 point is worth lol. 1 more point for me and I'd have $75k at Virginia rather than my waitlist. I actually thought very seriously about retaking to try for one more point, since LSDAS really hammered my gpa. To think that 1 point could be worth 60k is shocking, but not far from reality.

Re: In at Duke!
I've been debating the same thing as well for a while. To get $60k+ for a 4 hour test and a month of prep is the best return you will ever get in life short of something illegal. However, once you get 1 offer that satisfys you it doesn't seem worth it for maybe $15k from another school.poprox wrote:Very true. Nice! Congrats on that. Glad to hear they're still actually evaluating applications instead of just sending out dollas to all the admitted students.chinny123 wrote:In via email! 530pm today

Just withdrew after being accepted way back on Sept. 15. My withdrawal will also free up the $60,000 in scholarship money Duke offered me. Good luck everyone.

EDIT: I saw that you had, and I thank you because it was most likely your money I got.

I'm in!
Got the email @ 2:30. Numbers are 169/3.9-ish. Applied mid-Dec, wrote a Why Duke. Now I just have to send in the scholarship app, and hope I have a better turnaround time than Maggiebre. After a few WLs last week, this is awesome!

Went under review 2/12, in today via email. 3.8/169, why duke essay (which, i thought, was a pretty poor essay). First admission of the cycle for me.

Me!Applicant2010 wrote:Scholarship decision mailed 02/22/2010. Anyone else?
I've tried to read back in the pages but may have missed some... has anyone gotten a physical mailing that says they received no money? Or does receiving something mean we will be getting some money? I had heard it was the former, but it seems like Duke should just email me if they aren't giving any money. I won't mind the less official nature of it for the quicker turnaround time.
Edit: Form received 1/06

Hi all, does "Scholarship decision mailed" necessarily mean that you will definitely get some scholarship? Has there been cases where the decision says you get nothing?

Also curious...bubbagump wrote:has anyone gotten a physical mailing that says they received no money?
Duke said they would notify "everyone who has already submitted an application," so I assume $0 gets notified as well. If anyone has more detail from an earlier posting or received a $0 letter, please let us know.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
