I was saying "In an October email" not "In at October."
Is it possible your friend got into Northeastern instead of Northwestern?

Has to be. If ED people haven't gotten decisions yet...

Is it presumptuous to think that if no one on TLS or LSN was accepted ED, that acceptances have yet to be issued?SpaceDawg wrote:NayBoer wrote:I was saying "In an October email" not "In at October."

I mean, last year there were only two that were accepted ED on LSN, and rejections/deferrals/waitlists came out much later.
I don't think this is the case, but there is a chance.

Definite chance. Though the twitter feed doesn't mention any decisions being made yet.YellowCake wrote:Is it presumptuous to think that if no one on TLS or LSN was accepted ED, that acceptances have yet to be issued?SpaceDawg wrote:NayBoer wrote:I was saying "In an October email" not "In at October."

I was just thinking based on the NU tweet. They extended the ED notification date to 1/4. I'm guessing they need more time to get the decisions out.YellowCake wrote:Is it presumptuous to think that if no one on TLS or LSN was accepted ED, that acceptances have yet to be issued?SpaceDawg wrote:NayBoer wrote:I was saying "In an October email" not "In at October."

I think the distinction between 12/31 and 1/4 is inconsequential. That is maybe one day of work? And that is assuming that the admissions office is open over winter recess.SpaceDawg wrote: I was just thinking based on the NU tweet. They extended the ED notification date to 1/4. edit: obviously there is a distinction for the applicant, who would gladly use the New Years holiday for celebration/drinking one's sorrows away.

yea man, that's like 4 days, 75% of which you should be drunk or hung over for... so really like one day.YellowCake wrote:I think the distinction between 12/31 and 1/4 is inconsequential.SpaceDawg wrote: I was just thinking based on the NU tweet. Are you guys still getting acceptances by e-mail this year, or have they changed that?

NU email wrote: Your admission decision will be provided to you through the Status Check page. Once a decision on your application has been made, you will receive an email with instructions on how to retrieve the decision from the Status Check page.

Then why the extension at all?YellowCake wrote:I think the distinction between 12/31 and 1/4 is inconsequential. That is maybe one day of work? Not sure, but FWIW Jan 4th was always the date that stood out in my mind as the ED decision deadline. Was there previous material suggesting it was the 31st?SpaceDawg wrote:Then why the extension at all?YellowCake wrote:I think the distinction between 12/31 and 1/4 is inconsequential. Yes, I believe Nayboer posted it above. NU's website mentioned that decisions would be rendered by Dec 31st if applying ED.

I see. October was long before I applied, so I suppose that makes sense.SpaceDawg wrote:Yes, I believe Nayboer posted it above. NU's website mentioned that decisions would be rendered by Dec 31st if applying ED.

Re: Northwestern 2010
Also, I've told tons of people that I'll know "by the end of the year" or "by the end of December." Hopefully I won't have to interact with too many of them between 1/1 and 1/4, or hopefully they won't remember. It's not the time, it's the expectation. I'll still go to Northwestern if they admit me off the waitlist in the summer.YellowCake wrote:I think the distinction between 12/31 and 1/4 is inconsequential. That is maybe one day of work? And yes, it used to be Dec 31st. The email I got receiving my ED app said Dec 31 and I posted it early on in this thread.

My life would be a bit calmer if I knew what time of day they did their daily update to the status check.
