Should I bother emailing admissions again about it or would that be annoying?

Yeah, I'm considering trying again next year so it doesn't hurt me any to wait. I'm in it for the long haul!S.Picquery wrote:Is everyone waiting out their decisions? I think I'm just going to... not. But I haven't decided yet :/

Are people here contacting admissions and asking to meet with someone? I thought maybe that would be too much. I'm going in for a visit to GW on Monday, good or bad idea to ask for a chance to meet with someone from admissions one-on-one?

So how do waitlists actually work? I thought they admitted students to capacity and then pulled people out of the WL after they found out their class sizes, but you got an offer in March? I'm WL at Michigan so this is giving me some hope that I don't want to have!tncats wrote:I was just admitted from a waitlist and given a half scholarship, so not necessarily.Po$eidon wrote:Question: waitlist basically means no scholarship, right?

I know this is a question for a different thread but it's relevant to serving time in waitlist purgatory so love me, plz.
would you guys enroll at NU or GULC (let's leave money out of it, right now) and then commence waiting on NYU/CLS/Penn waitlists?
Basically, where will it be easier for me to last-minute apartment hunt - Chicago or DC

Re: The Waitlist Purgatory
The admissions people will go through who has been admitted to see if there are any "holes" they need to address in their current class. If their LSAT median is low, the might draw from the high-LSAT pool. If they need more in-state residents, they might go for them first. They also want to take people who they are fairly certain will attend, which is why its important to emphasize your interest in the school. All of this usually happens after the seat deposit deadline, but I guess sometimes schools start early.AllHailKingMao wrote:So how do waitlists actually work? Re: The Waitlist Purgatory
I'm not totally sure I understand the question...are you asking about what school you can enroll at that would allow you to hold off on finding housing for as long as possible? Don't pick a school based on that, especially since waitlists are never a sure thing.mm2368 wrote:I know this is a question for a different thread but it's relevant to serving time in waitlist purgatory so love me, plz.

FWIW I live in DC and it's not too difficult to find housing last-minute, especially if you're willing to go towards the outskirts of the city

Re: The Waitlist Purgatory
I'll ultimately make my choice based on financial aid packages so no, it won't come down to this (agreed with you, completely) but kinda just wanted to get a sense of what people thought of either area as far as searching for housing at the last minute. I'm expecting my waitlists not to work out so, just thinking ahead. Thanks, floatie!floatie wrote:I'm not totally sure I understand the question...are you asking about what school you can enroll at that would allow you to hold off on finding housing for as long as possible? Re: The Waitlist Purgatory
This might not be universal, but from my experience with housing/apartments across different cities including DC, all you need to do is put down a deposit to hold your place at a particular apartment, and then you sign the lease shortly before you move in. Why not just do that? If you get off the waitlist at NYU/CLS/Penn (good luck, btw!) then you'd lose your deposit at the apartment but wouldn't be bound to the lease until you actually signed it.mm2368 wrote:I'll ultimately make my choice based on financial aid packages so no, it won't come down to this (agreed with you, completely) but kinda just wanted to get a sense of what people thought of either area as far as searching for housing at the last minute. Got another one for the collection. I'm up to Northwestern, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, and UCLA. Still not a single acceptance, still not a single rejection. I need to go cry in peace now.

This is the kind of post where when you see it in a topic where you came to complain you're just like, "Welp, I guess I'll just keep to myself."Nightwing wrote:Got another one for the collection. This was me last year...I think NYU is a good instinct, but I wouldn't discount Harvard. It's a huge class, and they pull off WL for people all summer. I had to withdraw from WL but I do know several people who got pulled offSybillAnnDorsett wrote:At the end of this cycle, I predict a waitlist total of 5 schools, 3 of which are already confirmed.

I feel like this is common for reverse splitters. My chances are best at NYU in this case, right?

Thanks for this! Appreciate it. Yeah, I'll definitely consider it provided I don't need to commit to attend by agreeing to stay on the waitlist (I saw somewhere on here that this was the case for Harvard, though another user just directed me to an article that might say otherwise so I'll double check)eck456 wrote:This was me last year...I think NYU is a good instinct, but I wouldn't discount Harvard. Yeah, since I'm in another Harvard program this year I had a several one-on-one conversations about what the WL meant with different admin, and I NEVER was told you have to take the spot if offered, and I feel like they would have mentioned it if that's the case? But it's definitely worth double checkingSybillAnnDorsett wrote:Thanks for this! Appreciate it. Yeah, what you're saying makes more sense than what I had read on here. I guess if I'm waitlisted I'll find out exactly how this works. WL at USC as well - isn't it weird to get waitlisted at schools ranging from #7 - #19? like, why would schools with varying degrees of competitiveness give the same results?imtca wrote:Waitlisted at UCLA, Duke, Cornell, Penn, Northwestern, and UVA -

Hey, just wondering who you've spoken to? Is it the people in the admissions office? I'm at H too and would love to talk with them but don't want to be commuting a faux pas-- is it acceptable or not? I have a JS1 but haven't heard back.eck456 wrote:Yeah, since I'm in another Harvard program this year I had a several one-on-one conversations about what the WL meant with different admin, and I NEVER was told you have to take the spot if offered, and I feel like they would have mentioned it if that's the case? In said article they say you won't have time to know your financial aid offer before committing off the waitlist. So effectively you may have to accept without knowing one of the most relevant decision factors.SybillAnnDorsett wrote:Thanks for this! Appreciate it.
