Got my admissions package in the mail a day or so after I got a holiday card from them. I now understand why there is a $3,000 seat deposit.

Anyone planning on going to the Open House thing on February 8th? March 31st for the preview day doesn't work for me.

Emailed the office for more details on the open house though.

i didn't even realize they had an open house then! =o that would be a much more doable option for me actually. let us know what they say!

Actually, do you mind linking where you found the open house info? i'm looking on their website but can't find it. Thank you!

Both are within the admitted students portal, so make sure you're logged on there!

then the details of an event in DC the same day are on the admitted students gathering page - https://my.law.gwu.edu/AdmittedStudents ... rings.aspx

So I'm assuming they're the same thing, but I was emailing the office to see if there was any organized tours/class visits at the school that day or if it needs to be registered as an individual visit... Either way I'm making my visit that day haha

Thank you so much for being in touch about our planned Open House on February 8. We are holding this as a sort-of "mini-Preview Day" so that those, like you, who are unable to visit on March 31 have another opportunity to do so. The schedule is still being finalized for the day, but it will likely involve a tour, class visit, and student life panel in the afternoon, followed by the reception at Morgan Lewis in the evening. While the two events are not the same, we did schedule the Open House to coordinate with the evening's admitted student and alumni reception, which is held by the Alumni Office.

So separate events but connected in a way - I'll be attending, for sure.

How soon after going complete have people been hearing back? I went complete today (I know, impatient, just trying to figure it out). I'm LSAT >75%, GPA <25% FWIW

It really depends. I've seen people hear back after 2 weeks while I've been under review since 11/1... I also have the exact opposite numbers situation as you - I think when you're an obvious accept/deny you hear back sooner.

It really depends. I've seen people hear back after 2 weeks while I've been under review since 11/1... I also have the exact opposite numbers situation as you - I think when you're an obvious accept/deny you hear back sooner.

If it helps, with similar stats I heard back 11 business days later. (I got in with a 3/4ths scholarship, btw)

They just want to know that someone who sends in a deposit is an almost guaranteed seat. Nothing really stops people from sending in three or four different $250 deposits while using the schools as "just in case" backups for their ideal position. GW's just guarding against that uncertainty. When you have that many seats to fill it's probably not the easiest thing in the world to do to find 30 or 40 applicants in the summer these days with numbers to replace deposit gamers who ultimately decided to go to WUSTL, or who finally got into UVA etc.

Even so, 3k is steep. I could see like two or three installments of 500.

I see your point, but a $3,000 deposit is definitely going to turn off some people who might have ended up attending. I certainly don't know where the $3,000 would come from if I decide to attend.

Also, lots of us have used fee waivers almost exclusively to apply to schools, making the total cost of the application process in the few hundreds range rather than few thousand.

Good point. Though I think a phone call would help in that aspect. I can't imagine they wouldn't defer some of that cost for someone who really wanted to attend but didn't have 3k liquid.

I've been sitting on it, a bit anxious. This first wave in January on LSN was this week though, so I wouldn't be too worried.

My guess is that a couple of things may be the cause:

1. Holidays
2. They're waiting for December LSATers to apply so that they can get a better sense of the applicant pool.
