Same. Obvious yield protect move is obvious.Bob loblaw law blog wrote:And in the end, pt was for nothing. Fall grades requested. I'm a bit annoyed as I've posted straight As for several semesters in a row now and it's not like I'm just going to up and quit now. Whatever though, I assume this means my acceptance is conditional based on me pushing a bit closer to the median GPA and that's well within my control. Not a bad situation to be in.

I just got put on the Priority Reserve. Not that I wanted to go to Duke at all, but this isn't a good start to the cycle.

I already sent them out. I also worked on my app with a former Harvard Law dean of admissions so I'm not sure what happened there. I didn't write a Why Duke essay or anything, though.potterotter wrote:Try to re-work your application before submitting to other schools.Thelaw23 wrote:I'm 3.56 and 175 and just got put on the Priority Reserve. I didn't, I had good softs and had other things to talk about such as my two Lsat scores - one was 165 the other was 175.Assasindowntheavenue wrote:Did you address your gpa in your PS/app?Thelaw23 wrote:I already sent them out. Could it be yield protection because they know I'm really not interested in Duke?

They can't offer you significant money because of your GPA. They know you have a good shot at admittance at H and almost guaranteed at Columbia. So, there's no way you'll go to Duke and there's no reason for them to drag down their yield rate. If you had a 171/3.56 you would almost definitely get in.Thelaw23 wrote:I didn't, I had good softs and had other things to talk about such as my two Lsat scores - one was 165 the other was 175.Assasindowntheavenue wrote:Did you address your gpa in your PS/app?Thelaw23 wrote:I already sent them out. Likely yield protect, but its also possible your "im not interested in duke" attitude showed through somehowcurry1 wrote:They can't offer you significant money because of your GPA. YP is all about denying people who likely won't matriculate. Denying someone because they demonstrate they're not super interested in the school is the same as denying someone because they have numbers which make it likely they won't matriculate. I have a similar LSAT score to him (173+), but an above median gpa and I was asked for my fall grades despite writing a targeted Why Duke. Duke has clearly caught on to the fact that people with very high LSAT'S aren't going to matriculate, and are just using Duke for psychological security and perhaps negotiating leverage with higher ranked schools. In a given year, there are less than 1000 people applying to law school with 173+ LSAT. At least 100 of those people have GPA's that are prohibitively low (3.3-) for the best schools, obviously much higher requirements for YS and slightly higher for H. Historically, H needs at least 300 of those people to matriculate to safely maintain its 173 median. Y needs another ~110-150 for its usual 174 median, CLS needs ~100-150 to maintain 75th, SLS needs 50-75 to maintain 75th at 174. Chicago probably has (30-50) 173+ERS matriculate given that it's 75th is 172. Just those 5 schools will have a minimum of 600 173+ scorers matriculate, probably closer to 700. The rest of the 173+ers will probably take money or even full rides at UVA/Penn/other t14's. Admitting someone with 173+ who is not a Duke UG alum/from NC etc. is just a losing proposition.

Thanks, guys! I'll keep my head up and hope that's the case and not my application. It does make some sense though.
How bad do the yield rejections affect their ratings?

Is it ten days after you go complete? Or do you count the day you turn complete as well?
For example, I went compete 9/29, and UR 9/30. Should I expect a response by oct 8 or 9?

As I suspected, thanks!potterotter wrote:I got the email saying I went complete 9/6 and the decision on 9/16, 10 days later (this does not count the completed day as a day). So 9/29 complete would make 10/9 your last possible day for a decision.Keilz wrote:Says you'll hear a decision within ten days of going completelymenheimer wrote:What does the email say?Keilz wrote:Is it ten days after you go complete? Anyone know anything about the Skype interview that they mention in the email?

mine was the same exact email, a bit annoyed that we have to wait until December (right?) to find that stuff out, hoping to have a good shot at Mordecai. pretty dumb since i'm assuming if people were using it as a bargaining chip then they'd still go to that one interview, especially since it's via skype...anrf1225 wrote:phew ok thanks, made me a little nervous. im now thinking maybe it might be a yield protection thing, that if you don't apply for scholarship aid then they wont actually count you as being admitted in their numberstaxman14 wrote:mine was the same exact email, a bit annoyed that we have to wait until December (right?) to find that stuff out, hoping to have a good shot at Mordecai. How soon after you were admitted does Duke send your welcome packet? Does it update on the status checker when they have mailed it?
