Guys,
do you think it is appropriate to say in a loci that someone that i have been in love with for many years (not in a relationship) has decided to go to your school, so i really want to go to your school. do you think it's not professional and will have a negative effect?
I've already submitted a normal loci, my stats is LSAT>75.
please help me with this problem!

Just personally, I don't think it sounds good to be honest. Without knowing anything about your situation and this may not be the case, but in the mind of adcomms what if you guys don't work out, then would you still want to be at the school? Or worse would they fear you'd want to get away from the school? I'd leave it off cause I think it could have a negative effect.lydia1121 wrote:Guys,

Just to join the chorus: this is an exceptionally bad idea. There is no circumstance under which this would be construed as either advantageous or professional. At best, it comes across as childish and naive. At worst, it comes across as tone deaf, unintelligent, and indicative of a complete and utter lack of even the most basic understanding of professional behavior.lydia1121 wrote:Guys,

I realize you might think it's sweet or shows your devotion to the school beyond academic considerations, but it does not. The only reason we're all speaking in such certain terms is because this type of submission could be potentially fatal to your aspirations of one day getting accepted, and none of us want that for you.

Does a waitlist admission mean that you're in for a small financial aid package? I ask because I'm wondering if it's a good idea to outright commit to a school I was admitted to, in exchange for a larger package.
I have schools that I am WLd at that I would rather go to, but wonder if the WL means that I won't get enough money

I don't think there's any way to provide a definite answer, but my understanding is that you probably won't get much, if any, merit-based money off a waitlist, unless you were an obvious yield protection waitlist. You could look at the mylsn for people who have similar stats that got accepted off the waitlist to see what happened for them. But in general, I don't know why a school would offer much merit aid for a waitlist, unless you're a splitter or something and they need you to keep their lsat median from slipping.coocooforcoacoapuffs wrote:Does a waitlist admission mean that you're in for a small financial aid package? Since NYU willl apparently never make a decision on me, figured I'd finally jump in here.
Waitlisted at:
UVA
Duke
Cornell (Reserve)
Georgetown
Vanderbilt
Overall: 1 acceptance, 3 rejections, 5 waitlists.

How does this happen? ha ha you're wait listed by schools from 22-80's in rank? That's crazy. Good luck though, hopefully they pull through!benjaye wrote:+ UC Hastings to this. LOL My cycle has been laughable...benjaye wrote:Riding the waitlists at

This question reminded me of one I found after searching for some articles by Ann Levine. So let me link her answer to this poster, which contradicts what everyone else says here. (And honestly, I'd take her advice over any of yours, no offense.)lydia1121 wrote:Guys,

But she also says she recommends this specifically if you're in a serious relationship. So this might not be applicable if you're just a lovestruck puppy.

Re: Waitlist Oasis c/o 2019
I was waitlisted at UCLA, Texas, and Vanderbilt. I'm hoping to get off one of the waitlists, but really hoping to defer a year due to an exciting opportunity to work abroad. Anyone think this is possible? Or will I need to ask for a deferral from USC/one of the schools I was directly admitted to?

Take the year of working abroad, retake. Better application, better LSAT, probably a less crowded year in the mid-to-upper 160s.gobeers wrote:I was waitlisted at UCLA, Texas, and Vanderbilt. And you would need to get the deferral from whichever school you intended to attend. I'm a bit confused by the question?

To be more clear: I am hoping to defer whatever school I ultimately attend. I am on 3 waitlists and would love to be admitted to one of the three and then defer (for the sake of mind of having plans for when I return rather than reapplying while abroad. I will not be retaking the LSAT).TheProdigal wrote:Take the year of working abroad, retake. Do you think it would be possible to get off a waitlist and than ask for a deferral? Or is this unlikely?

That's probably unlikely tbh. I know Texas won't do that and most schools that I've applied to have the same policy. But check with each school just to be sure.gobeers wrote:To be more clear: I am hoping to defer whatever school I ultimately attend. Agreed. My memory from last year is that there was a point in the late spring/early summer when most schools stopped allowing deferrals.OtterLaw wrote:That's probably unlikely tbh. Harvard (Why Harvard/LOCI combo addendum sent)
Chicago (Sent a LOCI; Why Chicago essay sent before interview in March)
Columbia (haven't sent anything; not sure I will)
Cornell (Sent a LOCI; Why Cornell essay sent after interview in February)
Georgetown (withdrawn)
University of Texas (I went there for undergrad; eff them for waitlisting me)
UCLA (sent a LOCI but will probably actually withdraw; their bar passage stats are worse than USC's)
Vanderbilt (withdrawn; not even sure why I applied; I declined an interview)
How's that for a mixed bag? Haha. I'm putting in my deposit for USC this week; totally fell in love with the place.
Still pending at NYU. I think they've forgotten about me. Haha.
Got a phone call today from the assistant dean of admissions at University of Texas. I'm in. I can't believe I got in off the waitlist this early. Without a LOCI. Without a 'Why Texas' essay. Just before I was about to withdraw. As fun as undegrad was in Austin, I'm kind of looking forward to LA.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
