Re: Berkeley C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Why does Berkeley specify that resumes include some stuff that no other law schools request? (At least from the 11 other law school applications I have open...)
From their application instructions: "List your extracurricular activities since entering undergraduate school, the hours per week devoted to such activities, and the dates of the activities."
I have ten years experience in different positions within the legal field, plus a extraordinary amount of extracurriculars that I had to whittle down to fit on my 1-page resume. I, of course, have the dates of each job and activity listed, and the hours per week for each job listed, but I feel like adding the hours per week of each activity to my resume will make it look cluttered...
Also, Berkeley wants you to list dependent care on your resume and the dates/hours of such care while in school? I think this is even odder to put on a resume...although it does give you the option to include this info on a separate attachment, it is listed under the resume instructions.

I think, for Berkeley, it's a resume in name only. They don't require you to keep your resume to one page - in fact, if you've got a lot of experience, they encourage you to go beyond one page. You seem to be a clear example of someone who should make the most of that (especially as you said your resume may end up looking cluttered otherwise).seashell.economy wrote:Why does Berkeley specify that resumes include some stuff that no other law schools request? I definitely love that Berkeley is paying attention to these things. I guess I just find it to be a little clunky in comparison to other applications...

I'm working on my personal statement for Berkeley, and it sure is long!! Trying to make sure I list all the topics I'll want to eventually expand upon in this long essay! What a different format - I kind of like it. It is the only school I am applying to right now so I like putting all my effort into a really specific one.
Is anyone submitting their typical, standard 2 pager PS to Berkeley?

If you're not going to put the effort into it and you're not keen on it, why even waste the application fee?earthabides wrote:Keilz wrote:I'm working on my personal statement for Berkeley, and it sure is long!! I submitted my standard PS and my standard resume with no changes to either, but I'm not too keen on Berkeley.

I'm taking my standard and adding about a page of "Why Berkeley"...I'm hoping it doesn't seem like an afterthought, but at this point I just want to submit ASAP

I think I'm fan-girling too hard in the Why Berkeley section of my PS. I'm reading the viewbook I picked up at the LSAC Forum and am giddy over every single thing. Feeling moved by a viewbook bc of my PI-loving soul.

Things to do today at work:
1) constantly refresh status checker
2) stalk Boalt Admissions twitter feed
3) glare at phone

Well it's split into day/evening phone numbers if I remember correctly, so I imagine they would call accordingly.Muiraquita wrote:Anyone know whether they call the cell number or the day number listed?
I don't get service at work and I live in fear I'll just miss the call and not realize for hours.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
