What's the consensus regarding how much the merit-based fee waiver with the hand signed letter from Dean Z increases the likelihood of acceptance? Michigan is seriously my dream school and I just got my package in the mail today!

It's probably a decent sign. I'm not sure of Michigan's criteria for sending these out though - often fee waivers are a way to increase the school's selectivity. You can a better sense of your changes at lawschoolnumbers.com and mylsn.info.
Yeah, it's a tossup. Median GPA with an LSAT at the 25th. That's what makes the waiver more surprising!

Congratulations! Do you have any connection with Michigan?

Well I am in state. I'm also an MA male, in the interest of full disclosure. Surprising, nonetheless.

Last year I applied ED with around the same stats and after getting the same letter. Dinged.

URM boost though. Should have a good shot.
I'm aware of the "boost," but I'm not relying on it. Retaking the LSAT this Saturday in hopes of a 168+.

Didn't realize Mr Bacon was URM. He has a good shot, but because of that, not because of the letter. On its own, the letter means nothing.

From their website:

If you sent me an invitation to apply, am I more likely to be accepted?
We send invitations to apply only to those people who, through the information they provide to LSAC's Candidate Referral Service, seem like they would be competitive applicants. However, the only information we have available to us through the Candidate Referral Service is limited: LSAT, GPA, major, undergraduate institution, and so forth. An invitation to apply cannot be a guarantee of admission, because, as described above, we take many other factors into account that are not reflected in the summary data provided by CRS. Historically, however, receiving an invitation does indicate a greater likelihood of admission; we admit about one fifth of the overall pool, but we admit more than half of the applicants who were invited to apply.

I'm pretty sure the both of you (urbanist and slippin) are from the Chicago area, so I'm guess you all are either ND or Illinois folks.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Waiting 11 more days for my LSAT score so I can apply is killing me. It should probably also kill me that I'm applying to Michigan after growing up in Ohio, but no guilt here.
