Re: UNC Law c/o 2018 (2014-15 cycle)
Hey all,
Not 100% sure if this is the right place to put this so please let me know if I should direct this question somewhere else.
I'm an in-state student. Applied March 10, got waitlisted around noon April 18th (informed of this both by email and by a change in status checker that occurred almost immediately after receiving the email), accepted my waitlist offer around 4 pm April 18th, and was accepted on April 21st.
UNC is my #1 choice and I would genuinely love to be there. Any thoughts on chances of getting any scholarship $? I feel like the fast turnaround from being waitlisted to accepted is kind of atypical for UNC and (possibly) a good sign, but I've heard that UNC doesn't really offer money to waitlisted students. My seat deposit is due April 30th and I'm concerned that I won't get a letter with scholarship info before then. Is it acceptable to contact admissions and ask about that or is that frowned upon?
I received a full-ride offer from my #2 school and am happy to go there if UNC isn't giving any more money, but would really like to go to UNC if I could.
Thoughts?

UNC sent out an email a week (few weeks maybe?) ago saying that they were out of money to up scholarships, or something to that effect. I cannot remember if it mentioned anything about scholarships for new admits. That being said, I would definitely contact them about it and at least ask if you are being considered for scholarships. Email might be your best bet, the admissions office responds very quickly, and it would allow to you mention the full scholly and explain your dilemma. In my mind, the worst thing that can happen is they say no and you're back to where you are right now. Thats my 2 cents, others may have better/different advice.
Good luck, and congrats on the acceptance!

Congrats bebosafetycow! Do you mind PM me your application profile? I am from out of the state and was surprised to see they give you the reply within 3 days after you submitted your waitlist offer confirmation. For me, I have some high $$$ scholarship from other schools but I really want to get into UNC since my wife is attending their MBA program this year.

Same exact position here, even down to the full-ride to choice #2. My app date was even later though - app went in complete April 28th, they got back to me earlier today with the acceptance. Hope they've still got some $$ for us!bebosafetycow wrote:Hey all,

Re: UNC Law c/o 2018 (2014-15 cycle)
So we're half way through the week now and I have seen nobody update the LSN UNC page and I assume no one here has received an offer as yet.
So what was with the "priority consideration" stuff? And what exactly did "considered for admission" mean? Did it mean that we were going to be reviewed and would receive a "accepted/denied" response, or that they would just "consider" admitting us this week but not actual definitive answer?

This is starting to get ridiculous. Submitted in December, Hold in February or so, WL in April, told we'd get decisions this week, and no movement. This possibility of being admitted in August is looking more and more likely.

At this point I'm assuming we won't be hearing anything this week although we were essentially told via email last Friday that we would.insodwetrust wrote:This is starting to get ridiculous. The worst part of being on a waiting list is the lack of communication, seems like this is the situation with every school unfortunately. Vague emails and being left in limbo for months on end.

I was accepted yesterday off the waitlist. I have until tomorrow at noon to accept the spot and then until next Tuesday at 5pm to pay the deposit. I will likely be going elsewhere though.

Congratulations on being admitted! If you know for sure that you aren't interested, please let them know as soon as you are ready, hopefully one of us can get an opportunity.ammnyc11 wrote:I was accepted yesterday off the waitlist. Congrats! In concordance with the post above, please get back to them ASAP. It would mean so much to the other souls waiting.

Well at least we know there is movement! Thanks for the update and congrats on the acceptance. Here's hoping for some more movement for those of us waiting it out.ammnyc11 wrote:I was accepted yesterday off the waitlist. Well, movement is great and all, but are we all going to wait until late August for decisions? Isn't this just slightly ridiculous?

Slightly ridiculous? Yes, absolutely. Will it impact my willingness to accept even if it comes to August... probably not.insodwetrust wrote:nch2092 wrote:Well at least we know there is movement!
