My status checker did not change before I received a call. And then it was several more hours before it updated with a link to the admitted students page.

Does anyone know of places to live near BU that allow dogs and aren't terribly high in rent? I don't wanna leave my pup behind but I can't afford crazy high rent.

I live just outside of the Boston area and commute to work every day from here. You're only gonna have to pay extremely high rent if you're living RIGHT in the city. There are a ton of suburbs to choose from. A lot of graduate students live in Brighton, Allston, Quincy, Somerville, and Medford for pretty cheap. Whether they allow your dog to live there or not is obviously going to be up to the landlord, but I guarantee if you were to throw some an extra $50 a month they would let it slide. Stay away from the Brockton/Dorchester area especially if you have a dog. The places are cheap but really dangerous to be walking a dog around. Newton is a little pricier but a LOT nicer. A lot of apartments/houses in Newton have yards too so that could be a good option for you. As for getting into Boston from the suburbs, you can get ANYWHERE with public transportation. No matter where you are, you're gonna be pretty close to a T station.

Does anyone know if BU sends merit aid offers in the admission packet? Just a sanity check since I'm away from home. If not, when are people hearing about merit aid?

Just got my admittance packet this past Friday, after getting the call the friday before, in addition to the usual propaganda there's a letter from the dean of financial aid saying that they will begin awarding merit aid at the end of January.

I got my packet on Saturday and it said the same thing - merit scholarships to be awarded starting at the end of January. I'm anxious to find out if I'll get anything, sort of optimistic but trying not to get ahead of myself. Does anyone know anything about how public service scholarships are awarded? As in, how many and what their stats are?

My packet also had a travel voucher for the ASW - has anyone else received one of these? I didn't think I could afford going to Boston for it (since I will need to fly) but that is a game changer. Really exciting.

Any insight is appreciated - I really like BU but am super nervous about the debt I would take on to go there.

They said they offer everyone going over certain miles the voucher. Visiting is amazing. The campus really feels like it's one with the Fenway/kenmore area. As for debt, it really just come down to what you're willing to take on vs what you're offered. I'm not a good advisor on this, but it's a personal investment.

They said they offer everyone going over 400 miles the voucher. Visiting is amazing. The campus really feels like it's one with the Fenway/kenmore area. As for debt, it really just come down to what you're willing to take on vs what you're offered. I'm not a good advisor on this, but it's a personal investment.

I called BU today regarding the travel voucher. The girl who answered wasn't able to give me too much detailed information, since the lady who usually handles it was out today, but she said that they basically reimburse you for a specific amount (to be determined) after you purchase your plane ticket, and they can do the same for a hotel room as well.

Scumbag BU. App went complete a few weeks ago. Got a thick packet in the mail from them today and I was like "Damn that was quick! I'm in!"

Opened it up. It was one of those "Why you should apply to BU" letters/packets.

-.-

Has anyone else received scholly info? Are they only giving it out to students who applied really early in the cycle?

I believe they have only given out scholarship info to students who applied ED and were deferred to RD but still accepted

Also admitted today via phone call (submitted Jan. 5 I think) and never any change to status checker.
