Yup that was me who said that. He was for sure an admitted student. They handed it to him as he was checking in for ASW.drawstring wrote:haha....I saw that and didn't like it. I noticed that another poster said that someone (presumably an admitted student) was walking around with one of them though, so maybe they're not for upcoming JS2s.

For those of you that haven't had a JS1 yet (if there are any of you here yet), I posted some quick thoughts about my Harvard interview here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... &start=105
I mainly wanted to make my thousandth post at least somewhat substantive, so disregard it if it seems incorrect, but also to link that awesome interview thread for anyone that hasn't seen it previously. Lastly, for those of you that end up getting in, which I'm sure will be many of you, that thread is great place to post your interview tips in addition to the H-specific threads. Good luck all!

I totally forgot about the admitted students books... I'm so sorry if I stressed anyone out needlessly!

I also got asked about what I what type of law I want to do, and I said that I wasn't totally sure yet and that it would come as I became more familiar with different types of law. After the interview I started to question whether that suggested a lack of a coherent plan or direction, which may be especially hurtful for a KJD. I asked Karen Buttenbaum and she said that they expect most 0Ls to be unsure about what they want to do upon entering law school, but I still think about whether that was a mediocre answer to give.

I think this one area of several in which adcoms aren't quite as open about their preferences as they want to be perceived. I know KB no longer has as much of an incentive to be disingenuous, but even in her answer (as you wrote it) there is some hedging: of course they expect most 0L to be undecided, but that doesn't mean they expect most 0L at Harvard to be undecided too.drawstring wrote: Thanks for that. Hey guys,
when do you think would be a good time to send a LOCI for someone waitlisted in April?

What is the consensus on additional recommendations? I already sent 3 during the initial application, has anyone sent a 4th?

This exactly. After going to ASWs and hearing people talk about what kind of law they want to do, I've realized how much better it sounds to at least have a specific area of law you can point to that relates to your past experiences. It's not like you are going to be held to your answer, so you might as well say you are passionate about X or Y law if that makes you a more appealing candidate.drawstring wrote:

Wish I had thought of this before my JS1. Instead I just went with the classic "not sure but maybe IP or corporate."

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Do you all think the relatively low number of people on the spreadsheet who are at or above the medians (50% for LSAT and 35% for GPA and about 27% of people who are below both medians) means that Harvard feels confident in meeting its medians? Or do you believe these are typical numbers for the waitlist?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I think that has a lot to do with applicants at/above both medians usually being straight admits, hence not many of them to fill the WL, hence a fairly high proportion of those on the WL below medians and a limited proportion at/above. To illustrate the first point using oxie's findings, over the past three cycles 150 applicants on LSN at/above that cycle’s LSAT median and at/above that cycle’s GPA median were straight admits while only 25 were waitlisted. Of those waitlisted applicants, 4 withdrew from the waitlist and 12 were eventually admitted (57.1% staying on waitlist were admitted).Maybe?17 wrote:Do you all think the relatively low number of people on the spreadsheet who are at or above the medians (50% for LSAT and 35% for GPA and about 27% of people who are below both medians) means that Harvard feels confident in meeting its medians? In last year's WL spreadsheet people at/above both medians were a fairly small minority and overall the numbers of the WL'd applicants were lower than those of the accepted applicants, which is usually the nature of WLs. Another thing to note is that while the medians of WL--> accepted applicants last cycle was something like 3.89/173, most of those people were below a median, with the figures balancing out due to some people having higher LSATs and others having higher GPAs.
I don't have a good idea as to whether they are confident about meeting their medians, but they'll probably still need some good numbers to fill up spots left by those who withdraw for YLS, SLS, Hamiltons, Rubies, etc.

Checking in. Went complete 3/19 and was waitlisted today. No JS1 but I'm in it for the long haul.

Nice to have you here!
Apparently they will start reading WL files on May 1st, and it seems like JS2s will come starting around the 15th-20th.

What is the credited way to send your LOCI? By email or postal mail?

Waitlisted at both h and y. You'd think one of them will come through. #Cantloseeitherway

if you want to send in additional LORs, do you just ask your professor to email the admissions office?

I'm not sure, but a previous blog post sort of hinted at them not wanting extra LOR.
Only about 10 more days before they start looking at our files again. I feel like it's a fresh start in a way

They want it either through LSAC (if you have less than three) or sent via snail mail directly from your prof if you already had three LOR on file.frazzz wrote:if you want to send in additional LORs, do you just ask your professor to email the admissions office?

Someone has it from an excellent source that they were going to start re-reading starting on May 1st, so either way something will be happening I think.
People need to get ready to interview and answer JS1b's
