they are only going to have 4 sections instead of 5 next semester, so they are probably expecting a smaller classguilingangsta wrote:Does anyone big this 1L class is supposed to be?
probably between 170 minimum, & 200 tops.
my guess is 180-190

I definitely think the time has come for Minnesota to go Iowa-mode with the class size (I think Iowa went from 203 all the way down to 94 in a few years) if they want to save face.

It's good for ranking and for job prospects. It's just a good thing for us all-around.

Oh but how could this financially sustain all those important law professors?snagglepuss wrote:I definitely think the time has come for Minnesota to go Iowa-mode with the class size (I think Iowa went from 203 all the way down to 94 in a few years) if they want to save face.

They're really trying to maintain their rankings, aren't they? They graduated 274 in 2013 and had an entering class of 221 last fall. Do you think they would really cut class size by another 10-25%?Nova wrote:they are only going to have 4 sections instead of 5 next semester, so they are probably expecting a smaller classguilingangsta wrote:Does anyone big this 1L class is supposed to be?

Absolutely. Dean Wippman said so in a memo to faculty last semester.

I applied 4/2/14, my last date change was 4/14. When do you think I will hear something?
GPA - 3.6
LSAT - 160
Any idea on my chances? I'm a MN native and have worked for almost 5 years in the legal field.
Thanks!

Unfortunately your chances are likely to be somewhat low. Both of those numbers are below median, and they will strive to keep their median where it's at (164, 3.8 ). If you've been waitlisted and you don't get pulled off the WL by the time school starts, you can very likely transfer in as a 2L. MN native and work history will help, but aren't likely to overcome numbers that aren't where the U wants them to be. That said, it could happen. It's a crazy year, and it will take awhile for things to play out. Ride the waitlist til the end to maximize your chances, and to possibly get an offer to transfer in next year.kevincgustafson wrote:I applied 4/2/14, my last date change was 4/14. I am sorry to say, but your chances are likely low. The U is planning on a significantly smaller class next year for the explicit purpose of keeping these two numbers high. I strongly advise you to withdraw your applications, retake the LSAT, and apply next year. As you undoubtedly know from your experience and MN roots, the U has a very strong foothold in the local job market and so waiting another year would be reap benefits for many years to come.kevincgustafson wrote:I applied 4/2/14, my last date change was 4/14. If you had applied in October I would say your chances are not great, but not infinitesimally small. Applying as late as you did, with numbers below median, I don't think it's anything to hold your breath for.kevincgustafson wrote:I applied 4/2/14, my last date change was 4/14. well apparently she (ad counselor) called me (but I didn't receive any calls cuz I live overseas now, it probably got mixed up) so she mailed me too asking if I had made any finals plans for the FALL.
I replied, we set a time to speak and she offered me the spot. No interview.

Has there been any recent movement on the waitlist? When is the second deposit deadline?
