I heard from William & Mary and GW so fast that I feel spoiled…applied on 1/31 and accepted 2/10 haha. Now I'm waiting around bored for more responses from schools!
Anyway, how many of you have been to Williamsburg? What did you think?

Literally in the same boat as you. The immediate acceptances are making me antsy for other decisions and scholarship offers!pauly_biegler wrote:I heard from William & Mary and GW so fast that I feel spoiled…applied on 1/31 and accepted 2/10 haha. +1 to this stuff. Heard from WFU and W&M back to back and am waiting to hear from ten other schools. Good grief this waiting game is going to kill me. I'm making it a personal rule to not check other waiting threads until I'm in at the school. It's keeping me sane.mes10d wrote:Literally in the same boat as you. Re: Williamsburg, one of my fellow teachers where I work went to W&M undergrad and absolutely loved it. I don't know what the night-life is like, but since my favorite version of that is a stiff drink and good book, I think I'll be fine without a crazy bar scene.

Anyone else planning to attend next week's Law Review Symposium? I'm strongly considering it, especially since my schedule for next month is so uncertain right now that I probably won't be able to make it to the ASW. Hopefully, the current 7-day weather forecast holds up (shooting back up into the 50s!) because we're definitely not making the 6-hour drive otherwise.

I am! I know this has probably been answered on another thread, but how important is ASW? I have an 8 1/2 hour drive so I wasn't planning on attending both the symposium and ASW.

Is anyone here planning on attending the W&M Reception in DC at the end of the month by chance?

My acceptance packet arrived today, which was so exciting. W&M is offering $15,000 per year (out-of-state tuition) provided that I maintain a C average. I expected a lot less, so I'm pleased.

I got 12 grand a year out of state, have to maintain a C which they state "based on this grade requirement, the retention rate for renewal of W & M scholarships is 100%"

My application went complete 2/11, and I just checked and I am in the "Review Complete-Hold for Further Reviews" boat.
Should I consider sending a letter of continued interest or just wait till after March 1st for a decision?

In via email last Friday. Received package today - nice little handwritten note from the dean.
Total of $28k in aid - $13k Graduate Fellowship (includes 4k work stipend) & $15k for tuition.
Must maintain B average, satisfy work requirements, and comply w/ fellowship requirements.
Really impressed.

williamsburg is really pretty and has decent food options. there are like three bars close to campus and that is it. a lot of people have house parties instead. also the weather is bipolar as fuck. traffic isn't bad though and finding parking when you go places isn't a problem. I'm from williamsburg so if you have specific questions pm me.pauly_biegler wrote:I heard from William & Mary and GW so fast that I feel spoiled…applied on 1/31 and accepted 2/10 haha. I'm from Buffalo…if you don't like the weather there, you wait 15 minutes and it will change.
how well does w&m feed into the DC market?

Called admissions to ask about the "Hold for Further Reviews" status. W&M does not have rolling admissions. Applications with that status have been initially reviewed (and, obviously, not rejected), but they are not actively under consideration. Files will only be looked at again if you submit new materials (Feb scores, first semester grades, etc.). The review process will begin after the March 1 deadline (sometimes possibly a bit sooner), and decisions will begin going out sometime around 3/15 or 4/1. So if you have that status don't expect any movement until March/April.
P.S. W&M's admissions staff is the nicest I've spoken with, except possibly for WUSTL.
so applicants with "Hold for Further Reviews" status are half abandoned by W&M?

The impression I got is that the vast majority of apps are being held for further review. Waitlist decisions have been going out for those who definitely aren't in the running for the first wave of admissions, so I don't think you should worry.

Re: William and Mary c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
So I was recently accepted and received my package with scholarship info today, and it is not really enough to make it affordable for me. I know we can negotiate at some point, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about need based aid that comes from fafsa info?
On their website it says: "The Law School offers more than 50 merit and need-based scholarships." and that "If you want to be considered for a need-based scholarship, you must file The Free Application for Federal Student Aid"
Does anyone know if they actually give need-based scholarships or if it's just a bunch of loans? The word scholarship is misleading if it isn't actually grant money :/

In with 28k/year (including the 4k/year graduate fellowship). Definitely tempting. I am coming from So Cal so the lower cost of living is super appealing. Either way was extremely happy to get my first acceptance. I will definitely be considering w&m.
Ive been to Williamsburg to visit Colonial Williamsburg. I was like 10 years old and loved it. I'm not much of a night life person, so I don't have much trepidation about that aspect of the city. I am concerned about the food - I can't tell if there is any good food.

Checking in!!! Admitted this morning! Super quick turn around.
For those who have been awarded scholarships, the info came in your admissions packet or via email?

My scholarship info came in the mail. I was admitted on 2/10 and the packet arrived on 2/13 (I'm in Pennsylvania).
Congrats to everyone admitted today!

I received my acceptance email about ten days after submitting the app, and my scholarship info came with the packet in the mail like everyone else. In-state tuition and the 4000 work stipend, similar to others (FYI I'm a reverse splitter)...also curious about placement with int'l NGOs or similar work if anyone knows anything about that!

Submitted my app last week. Got an email today telling me to apply. That cannot be a good sign.

I've been "Hold for Further Reviews" since 2/4. I know not to expect anything until March. However, judging from LSN, it seems like everything that comes in March is either wait lists or denials. Is this accurate?
Would it be appropriate to send a LOCI at this point? W&M is my top choice.

Just out of curiosity, has everyone who's been admitted so far received $$?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
