Any semblance of a GPA floor has been blown out. I approve.
Congrats new admits! 1.5L here, if you have any questions about UT or if I can help in any way, bring it.

Most definitely blown out, and certainly NOT complaining whatsoever!BigZuck wrote:Any semblance of a GPA floor has been blown out. I approve.

Question time!
Where seems to be a general area law students live? I'm currently east of campus, but will be living by myself through law school and do not want to be in West Campus or other UG areas. Need to get on that preleasing ASAp haha.
That's really all for now. Housing is my biggest concern. Love UT, drive by the law school every day on my way home and was thinking there was no way I'd get in with my GPA. Glad they seem to be somewhat splitter friendly (at least to me) this cycle!
EDIT: Just checked LSN and seems as if a general GPA floor is holding around 3.4-3.5. Still not really enough data to make any conclusions, but even if I am an exception I'm glad to be one!

Seems like most people live north of campus/the law school. I live fairly far up Lamar, but most people seem to live in the Hyde Park area. Lots of apartment complexes, but most are older and you might be able to get more bang for your buck further out. Then again you give up on convenience.Attax wrote:Most definitely blown out, and certainly NOT complaining whatsoever!BigZuck wrote:Any semblance of a GPA floor has been blown out. I approve.

I submitted my application in October and still haven't seen any date or status change... my GPA and LSAT are slightly above both of their medians. What could this mean?
Edit: I'm out of state.

Could mean they're just waiting. Don't take it as anything bad, I just think as an in state it makes sense to expect a really rapid turn around since 65% of the class has to come from in state.stillwaiting24 wrote:I submitted my application in October and still haven't seen any date or status change... my GPA and LSAT are slightly above both of their medians. How did the job search go for you and your classmates? Also, how active is the BLSA at UT?

Ok yeah, I was thinking it was probably that. Still annoying to wait so long when I'm hearing back from other places so quickly.Attax wrote:Could mean they're just waiting. My peeps just finished our first semester (that's what I meant by 1.5L). We're more worried about fighting off our celebratory hangovers than finding gainful employment at the moment.Kool-Aid wrote:Thanks for taking questions!BigZuck wrote:Any semblance of a GPA floor has been blown out. I approve.

I know a fair amount of people applied for 1L SAs at Texas firms on December 1st and seems like most people haven't heard back in terms of getting interviews set up. For UT peeps it all comes down to grades for the most part and firms are waiting for those I think. If you go to the employment forum and look at the "Heard back for a 1L SA" thread I'm pretty sure a lot of those people posting are UT people.
Not sure what BLSA is, is that the Black Law Students Association?

Yeah, it's kind of like a sad high school. Doesn't matter though.StylinNProfilin wrote:FYI don't let the lack of beauty of our law school play into your decision!

Got the call this morning, in at UT!
Submitted early December,
above 75th LSAT by a few points,
barely below 25th GPA.
So excited for this one!

Are you in state? I applied late November and I'm out of state, but I don't want to wait until after the holidaysPneumonia wrote:Got the call this morning, in at UT!

Yeah, the Black Law Student Association. I know that some schools have pretty active associations.BigZuck wrote:My peeps just finished our first semester (that's what I meant by 1.5L). I believe the organization is the Thurgood Marshall society. I'm not the best person to ask but they seem to have a pretty good presence on campus especially for 1lsKool-Aid wrote:Yeah, the Black Law Student Association. Re: Texas c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
Honestly, all I know about the Thurgood Marshall Society is that they had a chicken and waffle sale this semester.
UT is a large school so there's a lot of student groups and there's always lectures and talks and stuff going on. I know a few people in the Chicano/Hispanic Law Student Association and they seemed decently active. I would maybe ask the admissions department to connect you with any groups that you're interested in. I found them to be very accommodating when I was going through my application cycle.
I'm probably not the best person to ask about student groups, I just pretty much focused on school this semester.

After I was admitted, I went to the three student FB pages and requested to join; I didn't receive any "invites" per se. Admins added me a few days later.OsaroLJ wrote:So I was expecting a facebook invite for accepted students today but haven't gotten on yet. Anyone get them today?
